Hi

Can anyone recommend an Antenatal Class in the Mt Eden area?

I'm sure my MW could tell me but I'm not seeing her for a few more weeks and wouldn't mind some referals.

ring places like pregnancy help or parent centre. We did one thru parent centre and it was really good (although not in Auckland)

We did ours at Birthcare in Parnell. It was free and run by a midwife.

My midwife said there were 2 options - free one through Birthcare in Parnell, or one that costs through Parents Centre.

We're going to the Parents Centre one cos:
- the people in your antenatal class will live in your same area, so easier for forming antenatal groups (birthcare come from all over)
- you also do a 1 day practical parenting thing, for after birth

It does cost though - we got the $215 deal which includes the antenatal class, the practical parenting Saturday class and another course after baby is born - baby and you I think it is called. And a membership to the Parents Centre.

So it just depends if you think the extra benefits outway the extra $$$ - my midwife did say both were good, but told us the differences between the 2.

You'll want to get in really soon though - I think our parents centre course is booked up already, so I recommend ringing around places asap

Totally recommend the Parent Centre course. You get alot for your money eg extra classes on choking and CPR and things like that. So far we have (in particular my DH who knows nothing about babies) learnt so much and the group we are with are a great bunch! Will definately be having coffee group with our lot!

Agree about the Parent Centre classes. Its great they cover things like bathing, wrapping, feeding etc because that is what I have no clue about! Ours are free though (Rotorua).

The one we did at Birthcare covered the pregnancy and birth for the first six weeks then baby care for the last two. We covered nappies, bathing, massage, CPR, breastfeeding etc.

Plunket run different courses called PEP courses as well as offering one off classes for things like starting solids after the baby is born.

Thanks everyone, I think I might try the Parent Centre.  It's my first bub but hubby's 2nd although his daughter is 11 now so it was some time ago.

He doesn't think we need it....  But I'm thinking otherwise!

We did ours through Birthcare, and they were held in Onehunga - all our Antenatal group live within a 5km radius.
