Ok, big question here but with so many opinions available I couldnt think of a better way of finding out what people recommend?

So What is your favourite nap? What do you prefer on newborns? What do you recommend avoiding???

Lets get opinionated!!!

never used them on a newborn as i started when toby was 3 months old and i just used old fashioned flats and covers from farmers. I think for a newborn i would use fitteds and mostly prefolds and covers, because they need to be changed so often anyway. what do i mean think, that is what i am going to do. I recently brought a swaddlebee fitted and think it is fab, not that i have tried it on yet, but i also like designer bums fitteds and snazzipants.

Favs:
tweedles
baby harmony
berry plush (as of today hehehe)

Newborns:
tweedles with cross over snaps

Avoiding:
swaddlebees (they just didn't work for us)
pea pods (some ppl love these but each time I used them the actual PUL fabric leaked - it didn't seem to be totally waterproof when I tested it without it being on Daniel - but the inserts for them are great!)

oh and i would avoid fuzzibunz until they fixed their production issues. I have heard so many complaints since they started making them in mexico

I was told to avoid fuzzis dues to having teflon in them and some bums react to it.

Off to look at tweedles now

i think you'll find they arent the only nappies with teflon or other questionable things in them.

On newborn Hannah I pretty much just used flats and cheap covers, so cant compare to much. I do however think that as they probably wont fit that small size for long and they get changed so much, prefolds and covers would be the most economical. That was my plan for this time round, but have ended up getting a hire kit instead. Once they are past the small stage tho I preferred pockets, esp Fuzzi Bunz (and that is totally unbiased as I'm not an agent anymore)

I'm so P'd off with the poor quality of mexican Fuzzis that I am currently selling them all on TM and replacing them with Honey Child naps.

I wouldn't recommend mexican FBs for a newborn unless you have a big baby, 10lb+ (or any other size due to lack of quality checking before they leave Mexico IMO).

This morning I sold a pack of 18 HC naps for a 3 week old (3.5kg) and the smalls fitted perfectly

The other brand I like is Baby Harmony but only for novelty factor (I spent $40 on a REALLY flash one!) but it has never lasted as long as my FBs and I use the exact same inserts in them.

I have bought other brands to try and don't think it's worth mentioning them as none of them were as good as what I had hoped.

A: Neither Fuzzi Bunz or Honey Child Pockets use Teflon. However Fuzzi Bunz do have an additional waterproofing that is called a DWR and behaves similar to Teflon. This is applied to the outside layer of the nappy and does not touch the skin. DWR's are common on all upholstery, carpets and drapes. It is not allerginic.

Honey Child Pockets do not use any DWR's or additional waterproofing.

ETA: Please see my post re. FBs and HCs NOT containing any Teflon!

Honeychild are my favourite now too, I'm planning on getting more of those as well.

And yeah FB aren't the only ones with "teflon" in them....

i only use pockets now, but for a newborn i'd suggest prefolds/fitteds/covers.

my fave pocket nappies are baby harmony....then joel-eze and peapods. i'm about to order a tweedle to see what they are like.

I love my BumGenius one size pockets - they fit my wee fella great, and we hardly get any leaks, unless he has a super dooper sleep during the day (a real rarity!).
I only started using them at about 8 weeks though (approx 5.5kg), so don't know about newborn.

Stacey, we have the same thing with our peapods. I've been using the inserts they came with (washed many times already) plus an extra microfibre booster, and still seems wet all through the PUL. I definitely never use them in the mornings as that's his big pee time of day!

Sorry just going to hijack the thread a moment

liljo how difficult do you find it to stuff the bumgenius?

Just curious as I was going to go with bumgenius but then was told they were hard to stuff (esp for men as they have larger hands) so it was better to use haute pockets.

I would be interested to hear about it from someone who has bumgenius though.

Bobbie I have both BG and Haute one size pockets and personally don't find them hard to stuff at all but in saying that DH does prefer to stuff the Haute pockets. He can squeeze his hand in just but depends whether he is making up a nappy for day or night use. (Now I just get him to help me fold all the inserts up and I do the BG nappies any help is good right? )

I am a big fan of one size pockets as they've always fit Kaleb really well. Most of the ones I have are velcro (BG, Haute, Mommy's Touch) but I do have one Bum Basics snap which I like. For my sized nappies I really like Baby Harmony.

I'd say flats or prefolds with covers on a newborn, Maya was flats and covers from 6 weeks till TTed at 22 months, the gremlins were flats and covers from 2 weeks to about 8 weeks then into M sz pockets.

My fave nappy changes with the season, it used to be Ecobubs but they haven't lasted so well with the washing, and I love Berry Plushes, and of course my newest fave the Bubblebubs AIO's.

But my all time fave for reliabilty, fit and ease of use/washing has to be the Happy Heiny's, closely followed by Fuzzis. The jury's still out here on the new Honey Child naps, atm I'm finding the extra wing snap a bit fiddly on two wriggly butts, but I'm persevering.

I have tweedles and fuzzi's and have had no issues with either. I'm going to be sneaky and say my mum made me some and I love them too.

Bobbie, stuffing BumGeniuses is not a problem in our house as DH doesn't do stuffing...! sigh!
I don't really find them harder than my other naps either, although I do have fairly small hands.

Thanks for the feedback on the Bumgeniuses guys - I think I will have to go have a look but it sounds like you guys have had positive experiences with them. I'm guessing realistically I'd probably do a lot of the stuffing anyway

Depends how much you are stuffing in too, I suspect.
But it's all practice, I'm sure he'll get used to it.

I like my fuzzi bunz but I'm a bit concerned re the Mexican thing. Rohan is starting to grow out of his small Fb's and I thought that I'd look at Tweedles - can't find them on the web though. Any pointers?
