After writing the title to this post, perhaps I should

Over the past few hours I've developed a pain when I breathe out, under my left breast at the top of my ribcage. It's unusual as it only hurts when I exhale & more so when I've taken a deep breathe.

Any suggestions?

Could it be heartburn? Have you had that before with your pregnancy?
Do you have an inhaeler you could take to help with the breathing?

Ring your midwife if you're concerned, or you could call healthline (although, I've found them to be unhelpful )

Could it just be a pinch? I don't really know how to word a "diagnosis"

Oh here, try this http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/tools/symptom/523.html - chest pain test (flowchart)

Thanks girls. I know it's not heartburn b/c I've had the pleasure of knowing what that feels like
It seems to be easing off a little so I'll see what it's like in the morning and call my MW if it's still lingering. I did go for a walk this afternoon and ending up climbing a whole lot of stairs which nearly killed me so it may be related to that...

I got this with my first pregnancy, was very painful right where you mentioned under my left breast.
I was told it was a normal pain, due the uterus expanding and I did find that if I sat down and relaxed it went away.
I hope it gets better for you soon

I had this yesterday too, not a nice experience. Hope you're feeling a bit better now chick. Silly me, I didn't even think it was pg related, just thought I was getting asthma or something because I was a bit wheezy at the same time (although I don't think lying in bed would trigger an asthma attack!)

Thanks Mel & Emz for your comments. It's nice to know it's probably normal. It has gone away for now so let's hope it stays that way. Pregnancy does weird things

sally, sounds a bit like costochondritis you can read a bit about it here on the southern corss website. http://www.southerncross.co.nz/index.cfm?EC183AFB-5190-49C5-BFE9-FD34EA69ABE9 - Linky

If it comes back though, might be best to visit your GP one afternoon, just to make sure.

I don't mean to scare you, but I got admitted to hospital for that exact pain on Thursday, ended up being in there for the whole day. I also had shortness of breath to go with it. I had to be put on to the CTG monitor, I had a ECG and blood gas blood tests. They were going to scan me too, they thought that it was DVT, and that it was travelling up to my lungs... it was a very scarey experience, and after being in there all day, they released me with no real answers.... They did mention that condition that Calalilly mentioned as a possible cause. I haven't had it since though. Sounds like it's a normal thing, but I didn't have it with my other two.

I'd still mention it to your midwife.

Thanks .Mel. I will definitely mention it & will follow it up if it returns. I'm glad you're feeling better now but it sounds like a very scary experience you went through
