Hi,

I was just wondering if there is a certain time that you should stop wearing underwire bra's?  and... when is the best time in your pregnancy to start looking at maternity bras?

My midwife told me to stop when I was about 12 weeks

I wasn't told this and I wore an underwire bra right up until I gave birth. I started looking for maternity bras quite early on but got bigger sizes because I knew I would go up in size. I didn't breastfeed so had no use for them at all anyway.

I'm sure I was told to stop early on, but no way am I stopping with DD's to support! Imagine gravity taking over

my consulting midwife told me to stop but my midwife doesn't seem to be worried. I think that like most things there is a big element of what you're comfortable with.

Given that I'm now an H cup there's no way I'm changing to a non underwire - no underwire is completely ineffective and very uncomfortable (I had a soft cup bra at the 10F size and even then it was useless).

I've heard the best time to look at maternity bras is in the 8th month - you can go and get fitted professionally and by then you should have a fair idea of your size.

36/38 weeks...cause by then they should be as big as they are going to get (pre milk)...but i dont know about the underwire. i thought it was only inadvisable after your milk had come in.

I was pretty much the same as you Anna, then again, my boobies got alot bigger even early on, I will be glad when I can get back into a "normal" bra though!

I bought my maternity bra at about 25 weeks? my normal under wires were starting to dig into me and become really uncomfortable.

I moved to non underwire in the second trimester. I got advised by a woman in a specialist bra shop that underwire can interfere with milk production & contribute to mastitis. She said not to get fitted for a maternity bra until about wk 36.

My MW said that when ever you start feeling uncomfortable with an underwire than change...just what ever works for you.

Thanks everyone - that helps.

I'm DD at the moment, still wearing underwire and think I'll keep wearing them for a bit longer.

I don't know why the Pamela Andersons of the world pay all that money for boobs.  I'll be glad to be back to normal size.
