I have both I got the front pack first and enjoyed using it, but then have been using a sling instead for #3. It is a lot easier to get baby/mum in/out of, have baby fall asleep in, adjust for size, and use past 9kg (which we are past already ).

I also have both but only got the sling when DD was 7 months old. Both are good but definitely going to use the sling when #2 arrives in Jan. Will be nice and portable with a toddler running round and enable me to feed discretely. Sling was great with DD as I could just put her in it on my hip and pop into the shops instead of getting the pram out all the time. The fornt pack was bought as a last resort when DD wouldn't sleep as a baby ( didn't know about slings then). Still good though. Can you borrow one off anyone to try? It is a good idea so you can see how you feel before dishing out the dollars for one??

We bought a front pack at the Parent and Child show and Rohan hates it! It works best with him facing on, but if you turn him around, the pack covers part of his face. If you undo the ties it's better but not so secure.

I'd be tempted to try before you buy if you can but we will try a sling next.

I prefer the front pack myself although we have tried both. DS just doesn't seem comfy in the sling at all, and I find it really awkward to use.
He'll even sleep in the front pack, facing in, but loves to be a nosey boy when facing out.

We have both (we were given/loaned a natures sway sling and we bought an Elite frontpack) and so far we've really only used the frontpack because I just couldnt' make the sling work properly. Alex seemed really insecure in there, like he'd fall out at any moment, and he seemed really scrunched up and uncomfortable. The frontpack has been great though, especially since his reflux set in. He loves being held upright.

Mikaela, Kryssi is a long girl and never liked her feet tucked in the sling, so I used to flip her knees and down over the edge but her bottom was still far enough in that she couldn't fall out. It takes a bit of practice.

btw I don't recommend Baby Gear front packs, they are annoying and not very secure. Also, baby can't face forward (so they always want to feed lol).

I have had both and prefer my sling. Its so great and can fold down to really small and be put in the baby bag so its always on hand to use.

I have a dulce and zoet sling which is easy as and fold up so small but it doesn't adjust so hubby doesn't fit it as he is broader than I am. I didn't do a great deal of research into them at the time but I am very happy with mine. Web address is www.dulceandzoet.co.nz. They are approx $65?! Service is also fantastic and all the measurements etc to figure out your size are on there.

In saying that others will have other recomendations as there a quite a few different ones out there when you start looking. If you have any questions about these ones let me know!!

I have both but got sling when Jack was a bit older. Its good for him now but I don't really use it that often. I have only tried Caprece in frontpack and its great for when she won't sleep although I do get paranoid she can't breathe cos she faces in. I had her in it in the supermarket the other day and my back just about broke.

She is at that next stage now where she doesn't want to face in. Jack used to love facing out in the frontpack.

Probably not helpful but neither worked for us. Gabrielle hates being constrained and always has so would not tolerate either. The carseat and stroller always result in tears too.

there is an article in the latest treasurses mag comparing the two with a review of diff brands of both. It basically says it depends on what you are comfortable with so if you can borrow or make sure you have bubs to try them out it would be a good idea.

I tried three different slings and two frontpacks before deciding that i loved my D&Z sling! I second G&T and say try lots of different ones! The one that I thought I would like turned out to be my least favourite.

I have both. The frontpack that we have is great. It can be used with them facing you and being totally protected. We used this a lot while doing shopping as I didnt like people prodding her ect. So hubby carried her a lot like this. Plus you dont have to lug a trolley and a pram around. She loved it facing outwards when she was about 3 months old and we did a lot of nature walks this way. She could see more than if she was in a pram ect.

Then when they get bigger you can even have the pack on your back. So was really great. Our one you can use until 10 and a half kg. And McKayla is only reaching that weight now although we didnt use it from a year as she wanted to walk everywhere.

Bought a sling when she was 8 months as I thought that I can use it when she gets toddler age. Really didnt use it that much but think I will when I have next bubs although my front pack will be the one we use the most.

I could feed McKayla in both quite nicely. With the front pack you just let go of the one side and she will be lying down and can feed without anyone knowing anything.

Cant tell you what brand to buy here as my one is a Kango pouch from SA.

we had a front pack (bought off TM) but never got the weight distribution right so it was always really uncomfortable. We now have a sling (just the material loop kind) and I used it heaps, especially when going to the supermarket. I have occassionally put her in the sling when doing the vacuming as she hates the noise, this is a recent fear of hers. She was fine in the sling and even went to sleep on my back
Weight distribution is really good too, even with a 10.5kg toddler
So for value for money, I'd definitely go with the sling
