So I don't know if it's a good idea or not, and I'll talk to DH before I decide if I will actually do it, but I had an idea...

I'm thinking about buying something small for my not yet existent baby any time I get AF or bad news from the fertility docs.

I was so depressed when I got my last AF, it felt like we weren't getting anywhere and I'd never get my BFP. I was thinking if I bought a wee t-shirt or something it would be positive re-enforcement. A reminder that this will happen. Plus I get to look forward to the bad news cause it means I can go into one of those baby shops that I have been avoiding and pick out something special for bubs.

What do you guys think?

I know some people do this but I'm the opposite, I never bought any baby things before getting pregnant. I've never felt right about buying something for a baby that doesn't exist.

When I was pregnant I bought some things but regretted it after I miscarried because now those things are sitting in a drawer taunting me. Next time I will be waiting until I am at least 12 weeks before buying anything baby related!

Astral Monkey, I think that's a great idea. When I was waiting to ttc, every time I got depressed I'd buy a little something (this is how it all started hehe), it's a nice little pick me up!

DH decided it wasn't such a good idea. He said it would be good in the short term, but he was worried if things took a lot longer it would only make things worse.

I've always thought a similar way to you LR. Although I'm not sure I could wait till 12 weeks before buying anything (even though I'm terrified of what will happen in the event of an m/c).

I still think it's a good idea, just not for me.

Unfortunately, I don't really get excited about that sort of thing. Can't seem to stop myself staring in the windows at Pumpkin Patch and Baby Factory when I walk past though. (p.s. T&T have a big sale on at the moment. Haha.)

I can definitely relate Astral, There's a Pumpkin Patch outlet near me, and I have to admit that last year after losing my first when I was at the height of saddness, I did go and buy a few things.
For me it was a positive. Every now and then I get the things out and look and they make me happy. For me it's a symbol of hope!

I also completely understand why people wouldn't buy anything. Someone was saying to me recently that just 20 years ago it was considered bad luck to have any baby stuff in the house before you actually bought your baby home from the hospital. (So um you put the baby on the floor and then went out and got a cot ? lol)

I'm in 2 minds about this.
I started stocking up last year when I was pregnant, just slowly, nappies, newborn suits off trade me.... and then m/c at 12 weeks devastated me.
I still have my box of baby clothes and I go in there and look at them, and although it makes me sad because my May baby is no longer happening, it does bring me hope that I will have a little person to put in them some day.
I like the idea of buying something for you instead. Think of something you like, and maybe make that a positive, treat whenever you get AF, like going out for dinner, or a nice bottle of wine perhaps??
