Topic: Ovulation Pain or something else? Posted: 24 April 2011 at 1:14pm |
TMI warning
For the past 3 months I have had pain on my right side at certain times of the month. I have kept a diary for last month and again this month. I am at CD18 at the moment with my last cycle being 32 days long. I have had the pain this time from CD15, with CD17 (yesterday) being the worst yet. This morning it was still there but its since subsided. About the same time I also have lower back ache and a dull lower pelvic ache which increases when I need to pee like pressure and is a relief when I go to not have that pressure on as much. I dont have painful AFs, but lately have had heavier than usual AFs with clots that Ive never had before.
I only finished BFing in January so have only really had 3-4 cycles since finshing. Mostly those were 26 days long but last month it was 32 days long.
Ive never previously experienced OV pains like this (if thats what it is) before.....I think I used to get a pain in my leg when I was ovulating but definetly not this pain. Its always on my right side
So does anyone else have this? or could it be something else?

I am wondering if you can actually feel the egg being released. It kinda sounds like what I used to get and it happened at the time of an egg being released.

I wondered that too but on the same side? this is the 4th cycle with the pain on same side.......I have read that when Ovulating sometimes pain can be on the same side....but that makes no sense to me if ovulation occurs on different sides each month most of the time

I thought that as well about ovulating on both sides, little did I know I don't swich sides each month like "normal". I would keep the diary of it, and see if is changes. If it doesn't I would go and see your dr just to make sure something isn't up. I did also think that maybe things are still settling down after you have stopped BFing.

Every month when I ov I get the most awful random pains in my sides above the ovaries, Its like an intense weird ache..I usually out the heat pack on it or take panadol, it lasts 2-3 days and always coincides with ovulation, as I get the cramps backache and CM, plus I also feel queazy like MS.
Only ever since having kids!

It sounds a bit like what I used to have before I had kids, & I had ovarian cysts. The way the gynecologist explained it to me is your ovary produces small cysts, from that cyst comes the ripe egg, sometimes hormones etc make the cysts go screwy & they grow far bigger than they're meant to. I had to have one lanced with a needle through my belly, ("grapefruit-sized") local didn't work, omfg it hurt! I'd go see a gyn if it persists or gets worse, it's a bit out of a gp's league.

As tictacjunkie said - it could be an ovarian cyst.
I had craaaaaaazy pain mid last year but it didn't follow a discernible pattern as far as my cycle went. Finally got bad enough to go to the doc and they found a 6cm cyst on my right ovary.
Might be worth heading to the doc? If they suspect ovarian cyst they'll prob get an ultrasound to confirm. Depending on what type of cyst (if it is one), you could use natural therapies to reduce it, wait and see, or need to get surgery.
Lemme know if you need any more info about it

Thanks everyone. The pain hasnt returned since my CD17 and if my cycle is 32 days long this time then its def gotta be OV related. In saying that i dont think it will hurt to go to doc and get a scan to double check if its a cyst or not.
I have read that going on the pill helps reduce cysts so that might be an option.
