Topic: ok So I ask ..... Posted: 13 July 2007 at 10:34am |
I don’t get it. My mil emailed a couple of weeks back asking me what things I need or would like to get for baby. After thinking about it I emailed her back saying I would like some t shirts and baby gym. I also mentioned that I wanted some singlets.
She emailed me back saying don’t worry about a baby gym or t shirts you will get plenty of presents from friends. What is the point of being asked of what you would like if the person turns around says well I wont be getting you that. It’s not like I was asking for a $700 cot.
And the thing is Im not really expecting to get any presents from friends.

Hmm that's a bit weird. Maybe she was just curious? Or has a surprise for Christmas planned? Maybe just ignore that Q&A.

Yeah, maybe she was checking what you needed and thought to say to you when you said what you wanted that probably friends would get you those sort of things, to save you buying them?

Maybe she wants to get you something but not those as "everyone will give them to you". I am a bit worried about that theory too though as I have got a few things from friends already but my close friends are male and I dont expect ANYTHING from them!
Its hard isnt it? Get it all yourself and then people cant get things if they want or dont get it and then find noone else does either?????

I got pretty much everything myself for the gremlins, I found people mostly gave me clothes, nappies etc. rather than the bigger stuff. We were so spoilt tho, some of the lovely OB ladies sent the gremlins pressies, and some of my friends in Oz did too, plus all the visitors I had at Birthcare. I was surprised coz when I had Maya I didn't really get given anything.

I'm not having a baby shower, or expecting much from friends (I am 22 and most of my friends wouldnt have the foggiest idea what to get, or even the funds for it) so we are doing most of everything on our own. Mum is helping out big time. She said she has a $1000 budget for Baby Factory and we will go shopping for anything else I need. I already have alot, including the cot... so :)
She was a bit freaked about this pregnancy at first, but now I think shes looking forward to being a 41 year old Grandma... (well on asking her what she wanted to be called, ie nana or grandma... she chose "Shelley")

Maybe she was wanting to get you something bigger.. I know my MIL said something about it being tradition that grandmothers often get something big for baby, and that my mum had first choice of what she wanted to get us. And she said to let her know when there was something we needed that she could get. She's gonna get us a feeding chair (we're using it for a normal chair as well). My parents are getting a pram. Maybe she meant something like that? You could get your DH to ask her or something.
