hi there im a mother of Jaxon he is 5 months on 20th december and i have been breatfeeding the whole way through, jaxon has now been dropping weight on the plunket charts and now i am on domperidone pills and having to top him up with formula, anybody else having the same issue? He also has a lip and tongue tie which may be causing issues when i spoke to the lactation consultant. really guttered about this i love breastfeeding :(
Dont get too hooked on the weight charts... There is probably growth in other areas like his length. The more you supplement feed as well the less your body will produce. Its all about supply and demand with boobs i am afraid. My boy had a tongue tie but it didnt make any difference to the way he fed. Other people have said it does cause problems though and i suppose it would depend on how severe it is. Hang in there.
thanks for your comment its funny you say that growth happens in other places, his height dropped on the chart also but im starting on those pills for now to boost my supply because when he feeds he has only been on for about 3-5min then pulls off and holds his head back so he cant go back on and crys and when he does go back on he squeezes my bood hard out like there is nothing left and i feed him at least 5 times a day and i try to express to see if hes missing any but nothing comes out...
If by his height dropped do you mean he went down a percentile? cause if he shrunk i would wonder if they had measured him properly. Dont forget too though that the weight charts Plunket go by are based on formula fed babies who do grow differently than breast fed.
Can you feed him more often? I feed my girl at least 8 times a day. Say every 2 1/2 - 3 hours during the day & see how you go? Then give a dream feed at night if he's sleeping through the night?
My girl has a shallow latch, which I'm putting down to a really high palate??? and she is frustrating to feed. So hugs, sometimes it's not an easy road.
My son had a touage tie, and unfortanly i wasnt albe to breast feed but did express for a month... theres nothing wrong with formula feeding :) even tho breast feeding is always nice :) I hope things pick up for you, dont stress to much :)
