Is your hubby a car man? Does he know how cars work/how to fix them? If so... you could rationale it that way - why does he need to know all that when a mechanic could just fix it for him and tell him what happened?
Good luck! I've read everything I can get my hands on too - my DD is 8.5 so I've forgotten absolutely everything! My DH just nods and says "mmmm" in appropriate places when I'm telling him about anything baby related - 2nd baby for both of us but first one together, sometimes I want to bash his head in! I throw in weird made up bits sometimes to make sure he's listening...
