There is a family tax credit thing
check out
Family tax benefit
Not sure what else is available for NZers since other benefits we are not eligible for.

You may be eligible for Family Tax Benefit (FTB) A and B (yep 2 categories), which is exactly the same as WFF, and income tested. You will also be able to register with Medicare to get cheaper Dr bills and sometimes bulk billing (no cost to you, govt pays).
For jobs your best bet is seek.com.au or jobsearch.gov.au or mycareer.com.au or careerone.com.au.
Rentals are shocking to get in Melbourne, probably the worst city in Australia. So be prepared that it could take a while to get exactly what your after for accommodation, and you will pay for it, its not cheap. Check out realestate.com.au
Transport is bus, trams and trains.
Health insurance is pretty important for things like dental, optical and physio as its not the same as in NZ and covered by ACC. It is covered by Medicare BUT there are long waiting periods. Check out medibank.com.au or mbf.com.au or nib.com.au (there are plenty more available). We are with Medibank private and they are pretty good with great allowances per person per year.
Hope that helps a little.

awesome. its a bit of a juggle trying to find my way around everything but all good, we are getting there. i have found some 2bdrm appartments pretty easy so far. we are really un-picky and pay a $700 a week mortage living in wellington so once our house here is being rented we will still be saving. hopefully DH can find a really good job and i can get into melbourne uni. its only 12 months so hopefully the long waiting lists for stuff wont affect us too much unless something big happens. its all very early in the thinking process so just trying to feel it out for now

Just to add I've had friends move over 2 years ago now they were based in Wellington, and they love it - no plans to move back however.

Nope haven't looked into much at all yet. I have started asking some questions. I've read the moving to Victoria site too.
DH's brother is over there so hopefully we could stay with them while we sort out rentals.
