Topic: Midwives - Hamilton Posted: 26 February 2009 at 4:37pm |
Hey there
This is so not my usual section of the boards! (I'm still TTC) However, a friend has found she's expecting a baby, and is looking for recommendations for midwives in the Hamilton area. Neither she nor I know anyone with a baby in the area, and she's basically looking at a list of names, not sure how to go about the whole process.
Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Hopes
Not sure how it works in Hamilton, but when I went to the doctor (after I found out I was pg) they gave me an info pack which included a list of recommended midwives. The problem I had was there were about 100 so I had no idea who to choose. I googled a few that were in my area and that helped narrow it down for me.
Someone else on here might be able to recommend Hamilton MW's though to help narrow it down!

I have Debbie Fawcett who is fantastic. Very popular though so you have to be in quick. I booked with her when I was 5 weeks. She is based at Babie R Us on Lorne St along with Karyn Woodhouse who is also very good.
Have also heard good things about Jo Coulter, Pat Armstrong and Frances Good. Don't have contact details for them but they will be no doubt in the phone book. Of course what works for one person doesn't work for another so I would recommend meeting up with a few to see how you get on. Hope that helps!

I used Kathryn Duggan her and her partner (Rebecca Tainui) are awesome. PM me if you would like her phone number. She can birth in any of the centres and hospital.
One of my school friends is also a MW here Amber Argaet and I would recommend her to anyone as she is lovely.

I've had a few people recommend MW's to me and like always I went with the first one I met!!
I've got Pat Armstrong, have also been recommended Tracey Aubin and Jo Clarke - I didn't meet Tracey or Jo so don't know what they're like... no other names jump to me at the mo but I am also new to Hamilton so there may be more out there!!
If you go to Waterford on Tisdall they have a folder of the MW's profiles, that helped me narrow it down more then I had previously. Also there is a pamphlet of all the MW's that will deliver at Waterford and their phone no's etc. River Ridge may have the same but from what I've heard 90% of MW's work out of both birthing centres (and of course the hospital)
I hope this helps, PM me if you want any more info

Hehe... sorry Becks - don't worry, you guys will be amoung the first to know!!
Thanks so much everyone. I'll pass all that on. I'm trying to persuade my friend to join up here. She's adamant that she's not a 'forums' person, but I'm telling her all about how lovely everyone is.
