I'm about to order some more nappies does this sound enough?

6 med itti bitti (i have those already)
4 med berry plush (to get)
4 med berry plush inserts as extras
4 med itti bitti snap in extras

Still not sure what I will use at night? Have been using a snazzipants fitted with a microfleece insert and cover. Wonderful but getting rather too small for him now.

I would never have suvived with just 10 nappies, but other people do! I guess it depends how u gonna dry them, if u go out for long periods int he day etc, cos u ognna have lots of them either dirty or drying and not many ready to use.

I agree with Kellz.

If you were using pockets then 10 or 12 would be enough as you can get double the inserts and the pockets dry really quick.
But if you are wanting to use all-in-ones/twos then you need to factor in drying time.

hmm yes I see your point. I was thinking that with the extra snap in bits that I could reuse the outer so sorta like a pocket.
How many did/do you use? I try washing every day or two days.

Pockets you have to wash the whole thing each use- the nappy with the snap it bit, the wees will still soak through to the bottom layers, so I cant imagine u would be able to just replace the top snap in bit and reuse as the whole thing will be wet.
If u are going to wash only every second day there is no way that 10 will be enough.
Count how many dispoasbles u use in 24 hrs now- probably around 6, plus add a extra for the nappy that u just put on, then is full of poo 2 seconds later , lol,..so if u have 6 dirty nappies in the bucket from day one,..he is wearing one over night, you have 3 left for the next day..so you will have to wash in the morning and hope they are dry by the time you need the 4th one that afternoon, and if u are going out that morning u may not have enough.
So unless u want to use some disposables I dont think 10 is enough even if u plan to wash every day,..do u have a drier? We didnt , but I used pocekts nappies so they do dry quicker, and I survived the first 9 months (well from 5 weeks old) with 13 nappies, no disposables. After that Isla went up a size and I had way way more nappies cos I got addicted to buying the cutey designs!

Nope 10 is not enough because 1) you want to use all-in-ones that take a long time to dry and 2) you want to wash every second day.
Again I agree with Kellz, you need to do the maths.

I personally wouldn't want to reuse the ittis without washing, are you using the snap-ins or sewn-ins?

If you use pockets then you can use all sorts of inserts eg cotton flats, which gives you a lot more flexibility. Or if you were using prefolds or flats with a cover, then you could reuse the cover.

But if you want to use all-in-ones then the only real option is to buy lots more nappies than 10.

I agree, I tried with reusing the snap ins but never got there in time before the inside of the shell got damp so it ended up being a false economy.
We switched to AIOs because they were just easier, not finding them in the laundry and doing them up all the time!
We have 13 pockets (honey child and fuzzi bunz are great night nappies), and 9 AIO ittis between 2 kids and i struggle to keep up with washing, sometimes 2wice a day. we dont have a drier so when it rains 2 days in a row i have no nappies left and have to go into town to use the laundrymat (i got caught in the Takaka flood the other day because of this!!!).
I dont keep disposables on hand other wise i get lazy and stop using cloth.
I like having pockets with lots of extra inserts (we have about 20!) as the shells dry in no time so it makes the turn over that much faster, But i would also get some bamboo or hemp boosters for night time so they arnt too bulky and uncomfy for bubs..
Personally i would like another 6 AIO at least and 4 more hemp inserts (in the mail now, yay) to make things more comfortable.

Okay thanks heaps for your replies. I am using cloth full time at the moment (have been since birth) I was just wondering if you changed them less as he get older.
At the moment we go through four nappies a day and I have 20 in use nappies which get washed. I wash the nappies about every two to three days presently.
It is good to hear that people don't reuse the shells of the ittibitti's because then I may as well not buy extra insert but instead pay the extra and get the whole nappy. I like the snap ins as the dry fast.
I guess I will have to work towards twenty nappies and see how that goes.

I can't imagine using less than 4 a day! I still go through at least 6 here.

I'd be really keen to hear back on how often you manage to reuse the outers of the berry plushes though so keep us updated - I know on the snazzipants website they reckon you can get away with only having a couple of berry plushes with 4-5 extra soakers per day but I'm a bit dubious...

Also too you can expect your baby to be in the med size a lot longer than the small size. This means that if you buy a few more it will mean a lower rotation for all your nappies so they will last longer iykwim. Instead of buying for three or four months wear, you are buying for 12-18 months wear.

Except this doesn't work with the ittis I think, the sizing runs quite small so you would prob be out of the med size around 8-10 months old?

You must get very lucky with the timing of the poo! We go through 6-7 day nappies on a 14 month old.

I go through 4-5 naps on Joel and 2-3 on Leah a day. I don't use them overnight though and I wash all their clothes and nappies together at the end of each day.

We don't have a drier but i have made DH put covers over my 2 washing lines so I can leave them out in the rain if needed. We have about 10 naps for Joel( 5 itti bittis and 5 covers with inserts)and about 15 for Leah,(3 itti bittis, 4 other AOI's that I add a bamboo insert to to make them last a bit longer, and the rest covers and inserts)I want to get more Ittis for Joel but know that he will be in the next size before long so am going to get the bigger size for them to share.

I am surviving with 9 nappies at the moment, although he is in a disposables at night. I do have to wash everyday though as he is a min of 4 naps a day, more if he decides to poo 5 mins after being changed. I do however have 8 more ittis that I'm waiting for I use to have over 20 naps for him and found that a good amount but he learnt to undo his velcro nappies so I have sold most of our pocket nappies and kept my bum genius ones for the newbie.

Spencer is nearly 18 months and is still in the mediums on the first non cross over snap setting, he also fits the large ones on the first snap over setting.
I think it depends how big a baby you have, Spencer is only 9.6kg so at the small end of the scale. I think the mediums go up to 12kg so I'm hoping that Spencer will still fit them when toilet training starts.

You can have 12 nappies full-time at a squeeze - if you get 10, just do disposables at night so that you have enough time to wash and dry. Then work towards 16 if you can and that'll probably be enough. (At that point it becomes budget vs frequent washing.)

Growing out of ittis seems to be about the rise than the waist. If you have a taller baby they will grow out of the rise earlier than the weight.

How do you know when the rise is too small?

At the moment his itti bitti's tend to leak at the top if I am not very careful on how I put them on. the top bit flips down a bit revealing the white fabric which causes the leak. This can't be because he's too big as they are mediums. He is a tall bubs. He is on the first non overlapping snap.

As for the getting away with four nappies I thnk it is mainly because at the moment we are lucky to get a poo every three days.

Wow...I had 8 fuzzis and that is all I used from nine months till toilet trained. He was a big wetter so we used huggies over night. But that is all we needed, washing every day.

When Leo was in mediums we had 12 Fuzzi Bunz for full time use (day and night) and I did a wash every day. I bought an extra 6 inserts but rarely had to use them. I put a wash on every night when he went to bed and hung them out overnight. He went through 5-6 per 24hrs.

Are you using snap-ins or AIO's? Leo was wearing the snap-ins overnight (he's toilet trained during the day) and I found that the front folded down a little too and sometimes cause leaks out the top (this is after 12hrs though). I switched to AIOs and the fit is much better - it sits flatter at the front without the pull down of the snap-in inserts and we no longer have leaks.
