Topic: Mastitis Posted: 31 October 2011 at 8:41pm |
I started feeling flu like yesterday morning, fever, chills, aches and pains and a headache. Then I realised one of my breast was sore so I though hmm maybe mastitis. I had plenty of blocked ducts with DD1 and have just cleared my first blocked duct int the other breast with DD2 (6 weeks).
A question for those who have had it, my breast isn't nearly as sore as when I have had blocked ducts. There is obvious redness and it is tender to touch (like I have been punched) but I'm not in agony like I am with ducts. All the googling I have done talk about how painful it is but this isn't (yet).
Does this sound like mastitis? I am feeling lousy still and have a script for antibiotics ready to be picked up first thing

I got a sore spot on my breast at 3am and about 12 hours later was in hospital for 3/4 days and had to have an op, so Id get that script filled asap. I was able to feed from the breast and it was more sore than painful, throbbed if I leaned forward, it was the flu symptoms that knocked me totally. Good luck.

When I got mastitis my breasts were sore but the biggest symptom for me was the fever and chills etc so I would get the abs asap so it doesn't get worse. Not fun

I would get antibiotics asap (hopefully you have already). When i got it my breast was not that sore at all so i left it and it got really bad, i had a fe er of 40 degrees and chills, when i did go to the doctor they said it was mastitis and that you dont always get a sore breast. I hope you feel better soon, it really is awful.

Def get that script filled. I had it for so long even with ab. Everytime I came off them I had terrible fevers and was really sick. Eventually had to have it drained. Was def sorer when not feeding for me. Good luck.

Thanks for all your replies. I didn't end up taking antibiotics but mastitis came back 8 days later so am now on a 10 day course. Luckily I knew what the symptoms were so got onto the drugs asap. Funnily enough tonight I feel like I'm getting all the symptoms again- surely you shouldn't get it while on anti bs?

Jano1, I had it for the good part of about 7 weeks. If it is a good dose of it, you may just keep getting it. I hope the ab's hit the spot and get rid of it for you.

Um, yeah i had it for about 6 weeks despite three rounds of antibiotics and ended up in hospital, had to be knocked out and have an abcess drained. Not fun so follow up if you are not feeling better today!!
