Topic: Long cycles Posted: 29 July 2011 at 4:38pm |
hi there!
Ever since coming off the pill I have been having extremely long cycles. I came off in February, took 80 days to get a period, then the next one was 40 days. I am up to 40 days again this time and still nothing! Its obviously making it pretty hard to try and get pregnant! Has any one else had this problem and what would you recommend to maybe help shorten the cycles! Its such a long time to wait each time!
I have bought some vitex so will start taking that but is there anything else I could do? Thanks in advance!

Hi Meringue,
I am having a similar problem. Came of the BCP in February and had my first period in June and now nothing since then. I am wondering when my next one will be. It is very frustrating. I know it is still early on in the piece but I am wondering too if I need to do anything.

i stressed about this heaps during ttc and took vitex, b6 etc as my cycles were 40 days like clockwork. I think the most important thing to do is figure out when you're ovulating as it wont be your typical day 14. Charting helped me to do that. I am proof you can get pregnant on a longer cycle, took us 9 months but it wasnt 9 cycles. Very frustrating as u dnt get as many chances and have to wait so long. The month i got pregnant i wasnt taking anything so im not sure...not helpful really i know but just wanted to reassure you that 40 days can be normal

Thats good to hear wiggly_jiggly. Sorry just thought I'd pop in as I have long cycles as well with an average of 40 days, DH and I are not TTC until November.
I'm still in the in between camps of charting and wanting to 'see what happens' so I'm unsure whether I should start to chart now or leave it until we have started TTC in a couple of months!

Hails1, I would probably start charting now, just so that when you are actively trying you already know a little bit about your cycles and you will more likely be able to predict O day. I must admit, I am in the seeing what happens group too, but due to my irregularity I am starting to chart my temps, just in case they might prove to be useful down the road if AF doesn't show.
Meringue, how's the vitex working out for you?

The best supplements I have taken to make my cycle regular was Zinc 15mg and Fish oil 1000mg for the whole cycle
