Hi all

We are starting swimming lessons soon, so will need a swim nappy. JK has got some on special for $9 - anyone used these?

What are the key things to look for in a swim nappy?

Cheers
Deb

You want to look for snug elastic (for containment) and I prefer a nappy that has velcro side openings, rather than pull up, as they're easier to get on and off (esp. if dealing with no.2s!).

I haven't tried the JK ones - my fave is the Bummis Swimmis nappy - it's really comfortable on and has heaps of adjustment, plus the prints are cute. Leo's still in large which I think is 9-13kg - even though he's already 13kg there's heaps of room.

How much different are the swimmis from the normal bummis wrap?

I wonder if she could just wear a small size wrap (and I've got a AIO rash suit that could add extra protection in case of #2's)

I don't have a Bummis nappy wrap, but from looking at them I'd say that it has slightly different velcro tabs - the section at the front is really wide so you can get lots of adjustment - and the fabric and elastic is probably different. If you get a good fit from a standard wrap and don't mind it getting wrecked from the chlorine then it would be fine to use! I just know that from doing swimming lessons with my kids that fabric is literally eaten when exposed regularly to public pool strength chlorine so I'd rather use a $20 swim nappy than a $30 pocket nappy

Yip we have the jk ones and they are great. Jack was wearing the 6-9 month one last summer (2 years) so they stretch heaps and work really well.

Caleb has a JK swim nap (looks like a speedo) which he wears under a rash suit. We've never had an explosion as such to deal with but the elastic looks like it would hold it all in. I have heard that a pocket with no insert is just as good. We'll try it after he outgrows this one.

Honey Child swim nappies are about to be launched - watch this space

P.S
We just use an unstuffed Honey Child nappy for swimming and have never had a leakage problem with #2s. The chlorine doesn't seem to have affected the nappy either.

Ella has JK swim naps - I've found hers great. Just be careful with the sizing - Ella's 20-month old heiney still fits into a size 9-mth nap!
