Hi

Not sure where to post this but am looking into my options regarding health insurance.

My gyn has recommened a lap as he thinks i have endo.

Basically I have a pre-existing condition (ov cysts) and my current health provider has now said any period pain related concerns is now considered to be a pre existing condition - which i don't get (does anyone in insurance read this and can explain that logic??)

Am currently with S-cross ("we're not for profit") but wondered what other insurance companies are like to deal with.

I get that pre-existing will be 'carried over' into a new company (?) so i guess i am after thoughts/comments on providers other than southern-cross in a general sense (ie access to specialists, hospitals/surgery etc)...

i think they say that as usually gynocological issues can be related to each other, so they maybe saying that becuase you have cysts you are predisposed to endo due to how our insides work, or something like that.

I have PCOS but no actual cysts on my ovaries, and they (S-Cross) paid for my surgery (cyst removal) because they had to because my gyno wrote a good letter saying its not related as it couldnt be becuase its the wrong type of cyst to be related to PCOS as its in the wrong region

I'm with Tower and had my lap done through them. I have a pre-existing bladder condition and they said at the time that if the surgery showed endo on my bladder they might not pay for the procedure. Luckily it didn't. But, yeah because your pre-existing condition is related to "girl bits" they could argue to say that the endo is girl bits related so all comes under the same thing. It's crap.

Thanks for your replies. I'll wait and see what they say and then contact my GP again.

So being with tower - how/where did you get your stuff done? I know S-X has private hospitals but where does tower (or other companies) do their surgeries etc??

Mine was done at the Oxford Clinic here in ChCh because that is where my gynae is based. I reckon ask your gynae which private hospital they prefer to work at (if they are the one doing the actual surgery).
