Topic: Im going to get in sooo much trouble! Posted: 18 March 2008 at 8:35am |
I saw it and had to have it My DP is going to wonder why the hell I brought a moses basket when we aren't even pg yet! Especially as we're renovating our house and supposed to be saving for that
Anyone else brought baby things before they were actually pg?

Yep sure have... I have one of those baby-gym play mat things - real good deal on TM and couldn't resist... oh and also got a porta-cot as it was on sale and less than half price! okay, and I'll put my hand up for a couple of outfits too
Most times I resist the urge but sometimes ya just gotta give in to it!

My DH went away to Brisbane for a weekend with his bros about 4 months before we started TTC (it wasn't even on the cards yet).
When he got home the double wardrobe in our spare room was packed with baby gear (cot, portacot, boxes of clothes, jolly jumper etc). It was all free and I couldn't turn it down - even though baby plans at the time were ages away.
p.s. Moses baskets are great. We used one for my DD and it was great to be able to keep her close while she slept.

Yeah I went on Trade Me and got a heap of baby clothes lol.
I didnt buy any big items though as I wanted to make sure I was definitly pregnant before we did that.
The only thing is that when you buy things before your pregnant and (IF)something happens to the baby(like what happened to me) I had a m/c and had all these baby clothes that would upset me so badly when I saw them I ended up putting them all in a bag and throwing them to the back of my wardrobe, I brought them back out once I got past 12 weeks with this bubba.

I totally understand how you couldn't resist a Moses basket. I coveted one for months before I got pregnant they are so beautiful.
We got loads of use out of ours, great to take with you when visiting, nap on the bed in the afternoon with your baby or in the lounge during the day.
I don't think it is necessarily a bad thing to start buying before you have a baby. A friend of mine had everything but the clothes by the time she got PG. Bought everything in sales etc. I would definitley do it if we were starting out again. You don't realise how much you have to buy once your are actually pregnant and most people don't start buying until after 20 weeks. Makes for a lot of big purchases in a short space of time and it costs a small fortune!!!

i thinking of hiding it in our storage unit that we have for the renovations but i wont be able to hide my excitment about it if its gorgeous. i'll certainly let you know what its like! was thinking it would be great for when we are visiting friends etc rather than carrying around a port-a-cot for afternoon/evening social calls too much forward thinking, i know!

lol, my friend (not me) has been collecting baby items since she was 17 (shes now 22) , and she and her dp arent even trying , or want a baby yet.
Shes a nanny and loves babies and loves baby clothes (especially the Ymama brand atm) and baby furniture. She drags ME into the baby shops even tho im the one who is more likely to have another baby before her haha

I bought a few clothes and bits and pieces after my m/c before we conceived the gremlins, mostly coz JK had a huge sale on and stuff was cheap, and coz I think I really needed to believe that I would have another baby.
They didn't end up wearing any of the stuff I bought then tho coz I only bought one of each and ended up having 2 babies!

I brought a sling off another website, I just fell in love with it and knew I'd never find another as gorgeous for that price!
Do you have any pics of the Moses Basket? Did you buy it online or in person?
I say buy it, as long as you can handle having it at home in case TTC takes longer than expected (which is my worry). On the plus side, you can get things on sale, and while you guys (presumably) have 2 incomes!!
