Topic: I thought she would weigh more Posted: 12 June 2008 at 2:01pm |
at the plunket rooms in Hamilton here you can use the selfweigh room to weigh your baby..so today I took Megan there just cause I was curious as to how much she weighs.
on the 16th of April was was 6.35kgs 8 weeks later she is 7kgs I really thought she would be closer to 7.5kgs and that was even after a full breastfeed and solids for lunch.
so she is gaining an average of 80grams a week..does that sound about right for a 6-7 month old baby who is breastfed?

I'm not sure sorry, but why don't you give Plunket a call and ask them?

That sounds alright. Daniel can go for a month without gaining anything.

Anyssa's weight gain is similar - she has put on 800g in the past 10 weeks. The karitane nurse I saw was happy with that. A is still bf, and has 2 solids meals.

Yep I think it's right. It slows down very quickly and caught be off guard a few times too. Best thing is to mark it on the chart and see if it is holding the same line (roughly) as usual.

My little girl was 6.8 kg at her 5 months check and 7 kg at her 6 months weighing. The karitane nurse wasn't too happy with only 200 gr of weight gain, but Alani wasn't too keen on solids at that time. I guess they are all different and as long as they are not falling of the chart, it's fine.

That weight gain sounds normal to me. At 7 months Spencer was 7kg and by 9 months he had only gone up 7.5kg but was still tracking the same line as always. He's only 8.25kg now. They don't gain as rapidly as newborns especially as they get more active. I would do like busymum says and track it on your chart and see how it looks.

Hi,
80gms/wk at 6 months is on the high side of the average weight gain for a ebf baby so well done! BF babies tend to gain weight really quickly up until they are about 4 months old, and then tend to drop off, unlike ff babies. I had Alex weighed about a month ago, after 10 weeks and he hadn't put on nearly as much as I thought he had either.
Watch your baby, not the scales. If she is content, happy, hitting developmental milestones, growing in other ways then I wouldn't worry. DS1 was a "tiny" baby and is now taller and heavier than most of the kids his age and Alex looks to be following the same trend.

My lil boy is a fatty!!! He is 7.7kg. He was bang on average for his birth weight (3.5kg) but it must be all that formula and now solids.
