Firstly well done to keep BF til now that's awesome!!
Secondly, do you think he will object to the weaning? With Charlotte I started weaning at 8 months so her 2 drinks during the day were formula from her sippy cup then at around 9 months I replaced the morning drink then at 10 months I replaced the night one and voila all weaned!! As he is already taking formula during the day replacing the other feeds may not even worry him?? I think I was more worried than Charlotte was!!!
Are you in any hurry? Cos I found that weaning slowly like I did meant I never had any problems with engorgement/ painful breasts etc. It was all pretty straight forward in the end.
Goodluck I hope it goes well for you and Luke

Fair enough Milo
All I did was replace a breast feed with a bottle feed one by one every few days till now he has no more boobie. Some times he nuzzles in but I just put the bottle in his mouth. He likes the formula so doesnt reject it but he is also alot younger than Lukie so less likely to protest! hehe
Good luck I guess you will just have to offer the bottle and if he rejects it try to be strong and not breast feed him. Or even better go away for a day/night and leave your DH to it hehe dont tell him I suggested that though!
Looking forward to next week!

you can almost try him on normal milk at this age - unless it is an allergy thing - and maybe try a cup instead of a bottle too... a change of routine at that age will distract him from wanting boobie too and make it easier on you both.

Yeah, normal milk is ok from 12 months as a drink - and if he has been having it in other things like cooking and stuff then you will know it is ok. I wouldn;t worry about formula unless you know his diet is deficient.
then again if yo are using goats mil formula there might be a diet issue, so you might want to keep dairy away for longer.
If you are going to stop cold turkey you might want to look at something like milk stop or cabbage leaves to help you with engorgement etc.

Ok, here's how I weaned Hannah. She was having mostly a morning and evening feed and the occasional daytime one. So when she woke in the morning I got her straight up for breakfast. She got a small cup of milk and cereal. Then during the day whenever she seemed to be snuggling in for a feed, I'd get up and walk someplace (with or without her) or turn her around, sitting on my lap, and read her a story. At bedtime I offered her a drink of milk with dinner and she went down about 1/2 hr after that. It seems she was only having the evening feed out of habit anyway.
I started her snacks as wine biscuits and watery cordial for the first week, by that stage she was weaned and she seemed to have forgotten the 'snuggle'. So then I proceeded to replace snacks with water and crackers lol. She never took to drinking milk throughout the day and I gave up because she left it around and it was summer, so would just go yucky.

Thanks everyone for your advice and ideas.
The plan today was to give him breakfast when he woke and then formula feed an hour after worked well even though he didn't have much formula.
But after he woke from his morning sleep at around 11.30am he had a temp of 39!!. The highest he's ever had gave pamol, stripped him off and sat outside in the cool garden and waited it came down to 37.3 thank goodness!!
Hope it's just teething can see the outline of all 4 teeth on bottom and top!
So i gave him boobie to comfort him, his temp has gone up again tonight at 5.36pm was 38.4 gave pamol and then nurofen at 6.48pm as temp was up arounfd 38.3 and a cold bath. Worked and now just put him to bed and he is back to normal 37.2. So have BF today as a comfort.
Will take him to doc tomorrow hopefull it's not another dreased ear infection if so will be his 4th since he was 8 months old.
Weaning will begin when he is all better

Hi Thanks Simone And a day or even better a weekend away like you sugessted sounds great we could do a girly pampering weekend and both dads could look after Luke and T.!
Anway Luke had a good night but had a temp when he woke this morning 38.2 so we took him to doc's and he has a throath infection. Poor Lukie and his ears are boarding on ear infection. So on antibotics now hopefully this heals his sore throath.
Hope he's all better soon!!
