Topic: hpt at 8 weeks Posted: 08 July 2009 at 6:59pm |
I'm an idiot..i found a hpt and did it...it was dark but lighter than control line and not as flaming dark as the last one i took 3 weeks ago..i vaguely recall a topic about this somewhere? anyway had betas in the beginning and they were 108 and 408 2 days apart i thought 13 and 15 dpo but abdo scan put me back 4 days so 9 and 11 ... saw heartbeat at 6 weeks one day and scan guy said all good.. (so my ticker is scan date)
honestly should i be worried? I know i shouldnt have taken the test...i still have all my symptoms and my tummy is changing shape but since the missed mc i cant help but worry:( next mw appt next tue and next scan 12 weeks..

Oh KA It's natural to worry... for what it's worth I'm sure it'll be ok, but I know that doesn't stop the worry.
Considering your history, could you ask your mw if you could have another scan, just to put your mind at ease?

Four eyes - as your HCG levels rise they can flood the antigen site on the HPT which means that less dye can bind therefore resulting in a fainter line. Its called the 'Hook' effect.
If you are still worried, especially as you have had losses maybe give your mw a call and get another scan.

You're right, you shouldn't have taken the test! The peeonastick.com FAQ has this to say:
peeonastick.com wrote:
9. I took another test and the line is lighter. Does this mean anything? Should it get darker?
Not necessarily. In general, the positive line will be darker when a greater amount of hCG is present in the urine, but not always. Some tests contain more or less dye (meaning there is just more or less color to "stick" to your hCG.) Some tests are more or less sensitive-- even 2 tests in the same box can be different. Also, your urine may have more or less hCG in it depending on what you ate or drank, or how long it's been since you last peed. Food itself does not cause false results, but can affect how much urine you have and how dilute it is. Eating salty chips and drinking caffeine all day will result in more concentrated pee, whereas gorging on watermelon and ginger ale will result in lots of very dilute pee. But an HPT is not meant to tell you "how" pregnant you are. It only tells you if you are pregnant or not. As long as there is a line in the results window, you are pregnant.
Some women experiencing early miscarriages do notice their lines getting fainter or disappearing entirely, but even if your line gets fainter, it is not a guarantee that you are miscarrying, or that anything is wrong. |

K.A! Dont do this to yourself hun, your making yourself worry for no reason.
Please try and relax, dont pee on anymore sticks
Also, with hpt's the line can be dark and it can be super faint, your still pregnant. Every hpt is different as wel, so one might have more dye than the other, hence one test being lighter than the other.

Hope you've stopped stressing ka!!! I reckon it will be a combo of what kicker said (which is what I was saying in the text about the ceiling effect) and the fact that hcg peaks at 6-8 weeks and can decrease after that.... You'll be right - just don't test again !!!

KA stop testing
I thought it was how the dye in the sticks reacted to your sample as to how dark the line was? So a line is a line
