Health Hazard

I have just sorted Josh's daycare out for him to start next month and the licensee has just told me that it maybe a health hazard to have Josh's nappies stored in the change area. To which I told her it is no more a hazard than having sposies stored (infact I think they would be worse). She knows that they aren't the old fashion flat square and are more like a sposie nappy but she still thinks that they have to be stored in a bucket with water in them therefore a health hazard.

I have told her that I have a wetbag for them to go in and that the bag will have a smelly thing in it so they won't smell and that the bag can be huing up on a hook if need be and will be snapped closed so no child could get into it. And they can just chuck the soiled nappies in there no problem and I can deal with it all.

So now I need some help. She thinks that she will need to change the health policy for them (not that hard to do I don't think) and that she would need to get midcentral health involved to make sure they are ok.

So those that have children at daycare with cloth what did your daycare have do to get cloths there? Was it a hard job? How are they stored? And have they had any issues with them?

And I think there is someone who works at a daycare here did you have them? As a teacher did you find them a pain?

I was so sure this had all been sorted and to now have this put on me is grrrrr

Gen would you be able to get me a copy of their nappy policy so I can show it to her??

I wouldn't have thought that the childcare has a right to tell you you can't send your child in cloth nappies? Our childcare has no probs at all, it's probably half/half cloth vs disposable amongst the little ones. They simply wrap the dirty nappy up in a plastic bag to send home. It's no worse than storing a dirty disposable! In fact it's saving them on rubbish colleciton each week! You can even customise how you want your child changed - with dipsosable wipes or cloth wipes (both of which they provide) and with any cream or powder of your choice (which you provide to stay permanently in the change room). The teachers wear disposable gloves & sanitize the change mats before and after every change so I think a childcare is just being lazy if they say they don't want to change a cloth bum!

Our local ABC were happy to do cloth when I went had a look around so that isn't an ABC policy.

"omg what fuking bullsh*t. they are totally been dicks that is crap i jus think they dont want to have them in their centre. before abc took over our centre of course we had the cuple of kids in cloth and we didnt have nothin in our policy nor needed a freaking health ppl get involved. man tell her to tell them to get f**ked lol

they do not smell at all been stored all day believe me. she has a bag for them they will be sweet. man that makes me mad for her lol

actually we even have a lil girl whose mum jst i think keeps forgetting ort doesnt bring a special bag for them. we jst shove them in plastic bags and then a bigger plasitc bag.plastic like as in glassons bags or etc and they are fine dont even smell"

Alize is at early years DC and they are sweet with him being in cloth naps.

I am shocked for those of you who have been told you can't use cloth at childcare. If that were me I would have called Citizens Advice and asked the centre if they wanted to reconsider before you seek legal advice?

My daycare takes cloth, no problems. They don't have a written policy on it except that parents supply the nappies, whether they are cloth or disposable. I supply a wetbag, but more often than not the nappies are returned in a plastic bag. They rinse them off if they are pooey, which I didn't expect them to do, but am pleased as it makes it easier this end. I love my daycare!

A friend of mine does cloth and her day care centre doesn't accept cloth nappies. However, they supply the disposables as part of the cost of the fees, so she doesn't mind so much as it doesn't mean she has to buy disposables on top of her cloth nappy outlay.

our daycare have no probs with cloth either and didn't bat an eyelid when i asked about using them. they just put the dirty ones in a plastic bag
