I have just got back from the hairdresser and had a full head of foils ( I told them I am pg and not to touch the scalp etc) my god the smell of the chemicals was so bad, I am wondering what do the other blonde pregnant women do? I would look terrible with 9 months regrowth, but this hairdresser did not seem very understanding about me feeling sick.
She also had the hair dryer on so hot my scalp was burning and it was like I was a real pain in the butt when I asked her to turn it down a bit.
Does anyone have a really good, pregnancy friendly hairdresser in Auckland?

Honestly dont worry about the colour on the scalp thing, it wont hurt the baby at all, there is no proof that of it.

I bleached my hair when i was pregnant, and coloured it god knows how many times and my son is fine. With the fumes....maybe ask if they can put a fan near you or something? And try to sniff something like lavender while your having it done.
I used to do my own in the bathroom and I put the fan on and opened a window. It was horrible but I hate not having my hair look nice lol(my mum is hairdresser)

**Edited for spelling and re wording cos I made no sense lol

I had my hair dyed while preggers.

TBH maybe try a different hairdresser next time that is more understanding and ask to sit in the chair closest to the door so you have some fresh air nearby

My hairdresser is awesome! They put me by the doors to the patio .. and even moved the chair into the private courtyard so that I could be outside.

When it was dryer time .. I sat by the door.

I go to Rodney Wayne (but in Mt Maunganui) and I talked to my hairdresser at length about whether or not to dye my hair while pregnant. I get all over permanent colour done usually about every three months. There isn't really much risk with the smell of chemicals etc. Your sense of smell is usually heightened while pregnant - so the smell may seem stronger to you. In terms of changes with your hormones etc - what can happen - is the colour may not stick like usual to the hair folicle and sometimes your colour can basically fall out after being coloured. This did not happen to me (though both pregnancies) and the colour stuck brilliantly - so was really happy! My hairdresser said - you really don't know who it will happen to, until you try colouring their hair.

I got my hair done when I was as far along as you were and have been a couple of times since. I found having a few crackers on hand really helpful. I asked not to have the heater as that really would have pushed me over the edge, too hot
My next appointment is when I'm 37 weeks so that could be a different story..may have to move around the shop a bit more as not sure I will be able to sit for that long!

Well i just went to the hairdresser the other day, i was wondering why my hairdresser asked if i was pregnant and said i never mentioned it the day before when i made the appt.

I sooo never even thought that dying your hair could do anything to the baby.

But reading through i guess she knew more then me as she didnt put the foils right to the scalp, about an inch away from it infact.

She was soo nice and got me a glass of water and always checked to see if i was ok hehe.

Sorry my hairdressers is near wellys though.

Good luck with finding a nicer one.
