Hi Everyone,
I am so confused! I am 7 weeks pregnant and I live in west Auckland. Does the hospital i give birth at depend on where i live or where my midwife can deliver?
I.e. If I get a midwife who delivers at Auckland Hospital does that mean I can go there. Or do i have to give birth at Waitakere?
It depends on whether you go with an independent midwife or a hospital/birthcentre group. If you go with a hospital/birthcentre group they can only deliver at that hospital or birthcentre. If you go with an independent midwife they can be registered to deliver at a few different places.
When I was looking for a midwife I called the birth centre I wanted to deliver at (closest to my house, and I'd heard good things about them) and asked them for a list of the midwives who deliver there. I called a couple and asked if they were also registered to deliver at the local hospital so if I had to transfer my midwife could come with me.
Hi Robyn. I live in west akl too and am currently booked in to delivery at Waitakere, Auckland & Birth Care (plan is for Birth Care all going well). I think it does depend on the midwife though as Mrs Mac saidx.
Thanks so much. It is all very confusing. I live in Te Atatu but would prefer to give birth at Auckland if possible. Now just need to find a good midwife!
