I've just found out that I'm pregnant with baby number 2 but I had my first one (now 2.5) in the UK so I'm completely clueless about what to do now. Do I go to a GP or .......? Any advice from people who know the NZ system would be appreciated.
You can go to a GP, who'll give you another test and confirm it - that should be free, all GP visits in the first 12 weeks are. They will give you info about midwives in the area.
Alternatively, you can do a google or look in the yellow pages, and skip the GP altogether. Call a few, arran a few meetings, until you find someone you're comfortable with.
Yes you don't have yo go to a GP if you don't want. I'd really ask around regarding midwives as to what peoples experiences have been with different ones, also there is a good website, find a midwife I think it's called, will confirm that. Then ring up different ones to see if they are free when you're due and meet with them and ask them questions. It is a big decision so go with someone you click with
