Hello, I am interested to hear people's experiences of birthing at Dunedin's Queen Mary Maternity ward. Particularly those people who have traveled from Central Otago to get there. How long did you stay? Were the rooms shared? Was your partner able to stay? Do you have any tips to make the stay easier? Thanks in advance for your advice :)
Hi snap! I have had three babies there while we lived inDunedin (via emergency cesarean) we have since moved to central and will be traveling to Dunedin to have our fourth. I had my own room as I ended up with cesareans which was great otherwise I think they may be shared but you can request your own room if there is on available. The birthing suites are good, I think it's room 7? Which is the biggest with a queen sized bed, and closest to the bath if you want to labour in there. I think they all have showers too which I good to labor in. I haven't been there since the new hospital food company compas took over, I have heard the food is now pretty rank :-( midwives were generally pretty lovely, the odd olds school battle axe here and there but they do have valuable experience
