Tom was initially a twice a day boy but for the last couple of months he has been every 3 days (like clockwork) but we havent had anything for 7 days!!!! I know plunket say up to 14 days can be normal but bloody hell, where do they store it and are we going to get a MEGA poo soon?

Hey Nzpiper, when Spencer was having gut problems plunket asked if he was farting as if he is its a sign that the guts are ok and not constipated and that a poo should be making its way out some time soon. It might be heat related? although the breastmilk would adjust to account for him needing more fluids, but you could always offer him 30ml of water just in case. I don't think he would do a mega poo cos they absorb pretty much everything in the milk thats why they can go ages without doing a poo.
Edited cos I can't write properly

Ella goes every day with out fail (normally she chooses to do it, just after I have put her into bed ). I got told by Plunket when she was 3 months that it is normal for some babies to go every 10 days. One baby I know used to have a poo every Sunday- babies are strange sometimes.

One of the gilrs on another forum has a once every 14 days pooer, though he did go 17 days last time. Eventually it came out and while it made the bubba VERY grumpy, it wasn't insanely huge, as their insides are only so big!

14 days for us, and I agree with Mummy Beck with OMG once it did come!! Until Samantha started solids her routine became around every 7-10 days though.
Enjoy it while it lasts. Sam is now a couple a day!

7 days and it was a mega huge explosion in the car. Think up and down the back of the car seat!

While my second son was exclusively BF he would go 10 days. On the 10th day it was a little uncomfortable for him (and messy for me)
I used to think BF babies were more regular than bottle babies, but I now think it may actually be the other way around as my first baby was formula fed and he was much more regular although a little constipated

I'm trying to think of what we have coming up that would be inconvenient for him to poo and that'll be when he does it. Something to look forward to.
Oh, cuppatea...he farts alright. Can give his Dad a run for his money (almost)

Bella used to be every 2-3 day but now that shes on solids thats more like 2-3 times a day . Enjoy it while it lasts (well, not the explosion, I don't envy you for that hehe!) If Tom isn't showing any signs of pain/constipation, its pretty normal I think...Perhaps a little extra water would help. I've started giving Bella water after her solids now - she doesn't take much but its probably enough to 'lubricate' her system!!

Yup im with Bombshell on this one, my boy is notorious for storing them away for up to 10-13 days, and boy they go everywhere when he lets em rip!!! Up the back, sometimes reaching the neck.
Although in saying that, I found they were worse when he was exclusively breastfed, when we started going good with solids for a bit he was doing normal adult solid stools at EVERY NAPPY! I hated the fact that I'd change one and 5 mins later there would be anohter poo awaiting me, but at the same time it was so clean and easy to dispose of them by just chucking in the toilet and keeping same nappy on (didn't leave a mess).
But sadly we are back to his unpredictable poos despite him being on solids again (for good I hope this time). I miss the days of knowing WHEN my boy was due to poo so I could work upcoming events around then to avoid the explosions whilst out somewhere! LOL
Water helps with encouraging bowel motions, as does a bit of apple juice/prune juice with water. Even orange juice mixed with water is what Plunketline suggested! That and lots of exercise/floor play. I think thats all...
And good on you for exclusively breastfeeding!

Jsut to let all my faithful advisors know....the poo strike is over!!!!
It wasnt too bad but boy did it smell rotten as did the farts that led up to it. Thankfully we caught it as it happened (just before we were rushing out the door). Unfortunately he hadnt finished when I came to change nappy. I was nearly dry retching watching it come out his bum....that and nearly wetting myself laughing (must do more pelvic floor exercises )
So bring on the next 10 days.
As for the exclusive breastfeeding. It aint that hard. I am just too lazy to think of anything else. not looking forward to solids soon. That will require thought.

I hear you on the lazy part, i couldn't think of anything worse ...having to sterilize bottles, wash ....prepare milk ...pay for it!!!!
Better just to have it on tap, tis best for bub and FREE, FREE, FREE!!! Can just pull them out whenever, wherever
Gosh we still doing 6-8 feeds a day on top of 3 meals! I guess my boy is just a titty lover LOL
