aw sweetheart that's horrible. I totally feel for you as Rowan had terrible nappy rash before and you just feel so useless. But I promise it's totally out of your control.

unfortunately the bakingpowder baths did help Rowan so I don't have any advice to offer that you haven't tried. I hope you made it in to a docs today.

Oh Serenity, that is not good enough!
Incredibly sh!t of your Dr.
Once things have settled down a bit I'd be complaining big time!
As for your Mum what a meanie! Plenty of us, of all ages and experience have been through this and we know that it gets bad fast, regardless of trying to prevent it.
It is not your fault chick!
Argh! About the pamol, can your partner pick some up on his way home?
Otherwise, I'd keep up the bepanthen and silicone for now, keep her pants off as much as you can and try to avoid using wipes on it. Does she like the shower? Ella liked having her bum washed in there!
I wish I could be of some practical help but sadly, I'm a bit far away here in Auckland. Serenity, you're doing exactly what any good mum would do, don't let your mum's comments get you down xx

Serenity, and poor wee Eden too!

I'm sorry I don't have any practical advice and I wish I was closer to help out. As Christy said, being a Mum is hard no matter what your age is.

Ooohh, I only just saw this thread Big hugs to you both. It looks so sore. Do you have any Daktozin? It has miconazole in it too and is really sticky so it doesn't wash off when they wees and also acts as a bit of a barrier.

Ow, I hope you can find something to help her out soon. Grrrr at your stupid doctor. Did they not even offer for you to see a different doctor?

We use Daktozin, and it worked well for us. Phoenix had a severe thruh, not blistered but lots of spots and very red. The doctor told me it was nappy rash, he had it for 4 weeks before I got plunket to check it out and diagnose it as thrush. Easy to clear up once you know what your dealing with.

Oh no!  Do you still have my mobile no? Text me if you want a lift to the after hours at Kenepuru or Newtown and I've got a new bottle of Nurofen for babies if you need some.

Hey Serenity, taine as a baby had a similar rash, and similar reaction. i took him to the doctor - in the Palms in Palmerston and he said

"why did you let it get bad - you have to clean him after every nappy change you realise"

i went a bit nuts at him after that.

after the cream that he gave me didn't work, went to another doctor who said

"sometimes these things happen, regardless of what you do, so don;t feel bad. This is not a lack of hygiene"

I loved her.

Awwww poor little girl. Don't feel bad about it, the combination of rash plus frequent wees (and teething if that's happening too) sets rashes off like that so easily and it always seems like forever for them to clear up! See if you can get hold of one of the gals close to you who have offered to help out. (Kels is an awesome Plunket Nurse ) And basically just see how you get on with the shallow baths, wiping as little or as gently as you can (quick bath is better), and changing every hour for a little while. (That's because at that age, they trickle their wees very regularly.) Keep up with the Bepanthen and bare bott for now too. I know I'm basically just repeating everyone else but unfortunately there's probably nothing else you can do unless/until you get a different cream prescribed by your doctor. Big hugs, it's not your fault!!

Some more ideas for you. Don't wipe her when she does poos or wees. Get her in the shower and shower her off and air dry her so no wiping at all as wiping can sometimes open up what has tried to heal. Once dry put the cream on that wil lheal it and then the silicone.

When Josh had his I was at the dr everyday for a week. I told them I only wanted to see my dr (we were at The Palms in Palmy, and the receptionist tried to tell me he was booked, I told them to tell him who it was, they rang him and he said when she rings she is to see me fit her in even if you double book) and I knew that if a different dr saw him I would have to explain everything over again and be looked at like I was a bad mum for letting it get that bad. My dr told me it wasn't my fault sometimes it happens no matter what we do.

I was a puree feeder, forward facing, cot sleeping, pram pushing kind of Mum... and my kids survived!

I cant offer any useful advise at all but wanted to send you and baby a big , major to the Dr and to your Mum - not what you need right now!!!

I hope you were able to get some help with the pamol situation and perhaps a ride into Welly and someone supportive to talk to cos your Mum is a bit rubbish at being supportive by the sounds of it grrrrrr.

Ohhh poor eden and serenity hun its not your fault at all, these things happen.
It does look like thrush to me aswell, caden had it a month back and it looked like a mild version of what eden has, my midwife gave us a script for thrush cream.

I think your doing the best thing you can for the time being with putting on a barrier cream until you can get ehr to the doc,
And GRRR at the docs for leaving when you had an appointment, I would have screamed at them

I can't believe that the Doctor left when there was still patients to be seen - that is so rude. Imagine trying to doing that in another job. And sometimes those really bad nappy rashes do just appear between one nappy change and the next.

We have used Daktozin and it was really good. My PN said not to try and rub it in as it is really thick and sticky - just cover the bad bits and let it do its work.

Someone said about the Manuka honey earlier - in England and America they use it in hospitals on wounds that wont heal. It is seen as a 'nature super healer'. Hope it is starting to get better, poor wee girl.
