My little girl Ava was diagnosed with reflux today and the doctor prescribed Losec. Has anyone else had experience with this and did it work?

We've been using losec for a week, and it seems to be working really well. We managed to get a whole feed in after the second dose!

Hi Denny

My son was also diagnosed with reflux at about 5 weeks. He has been on losec ever since. Do you have the granules or the liquid?

We started with the liquid because I couldn't for the life of me figure out how I would get the granules into him at such a young age. But it tastes disgusting and used to give him such wind, that we did change to the granules and that was so much easier. We used to just give it to him with a tiny bit of pamol, worked a treat.

He still has it, but now with his solids. We tried to take him off it a couple of weeks ago, but it was awful, so straight back on and bliss!

Good luck.

Amanda

My DD2 was on Losec from about 2 weeks. We had the liquid and found it great - she managed to keep her feeds in and started gaining eight - shes never looked back

Hi Mandz - we have the granules. I am dividing up the capsules (10mg capsules) in 1/2 which is a bit of a pain, but will be worth it hopefully. Im expressing a tiny bit of breastmilk and putting the granules in that and giving it to Ava on a teaspoon. Im worried out of my mind about the reflux and her choking on spit up in the middle of the night. She is in her own room (small house, right across the hall - may as well be in our room its so close! But our room is damp). Now im wondering if we should move into her tiny room to be with her. Im so paranoid. She has been spitting up lots today and her stomach is making awful noises.

Emma has been on losec since she was 2 months old (or less, I forget) and it has worked great for us. There are other optrions too if losec doesn't work out for you

denny25 you may want to wash it down with something other than milk see the crying over spilt milk website as the milk nurtalises it which will have an affect on its effectiveness

Jayden sleeps in a hammock during the day and at night hes in his bassinet and we have a sleep wedge so he sleeps on his side (not recommended by SIDS of course!) but he cant roll onto his tummy and I figure if hes going to be sick then it can get out without chocking if hes on his side - also stops the flat head (I hope!) although I think babies have some reflex thats gets the spilling out without chocking on it? not 100% sure though

Chiara is on Losec and it works brilliantly for her, she's on 10mg (one capsule) twice daily. I don't wash it down with anything, just shake it in her mouth and she copes OK with that. I used to give it to Mercedes in the same way.

I've used breathing monitors with the gremlins and Chiara and they're great peace of mind, especially when they are spilly . Mercedes once projectiled 2m across the room and hit Sienna in her cot
