My boy is getting a really bad nappy rash. He had it about 2-3 weeks ago and I ended up taking him to the doctor like 3 times in a week cos nothing they were giving me was helping. Finally she gave me some heavy stuff with steroids etc in it and that sorted it out after a couple of days. Now it is coming back!!!!
I can't work out what is causing it. He hasn't had nappy rash at all (apart from a bit of thrush when he was a few weeks old) before this. It gets so bad and gets really raw like its bleeding. There are no blisters....just looks like welts for a bit, then the skin just seems to disintergrate.
The only thing I can think of that is causing it is his teething!!! Is there anything I can do to help it? I put barrier cream on him and try and give him plenty of nappy off time!
Any help or advise would be much appreciated!
I would post a pic, but my husband has absolutely forbidden me posting pictures of our baby's bottom on the internet.

Are you using wipes or cloths and water? Coop gets nappy rash if I use wipes. I find using the j&j nappy liners wet with water just as good if not better than wipes.

I have tried both wipes (just dabbing) and I have some soft chucks cloths that I use soaked in water.

This might sound a bit pathetic compared to the hardcore steroids but I found cornflour really effective for raw bleeding rashes like that.
Ella had a really bad patch when she was little, her skin was blistered and bleeding and she'd scream the house down every time she wee'd or poo'd.
I stopped wiping altogether and would wash her in a tepid shower instead and once she was dry, put cornflour on.
Good luck, I know how heartbreaking it is when your baby is in so much pain with it and there's nothing you can do to fix it!

sometimes creams just feed the rash. i found it better to keep it dry and using a powder like curash - i never used cornflour myself but that is definitely a good option too.
and yeah i agree about using cloth wipes instead of disposables.

jayden had bad nappy rash when he was born as I was just using water and no barrier cream (MW advice!) I used the steriod cream for almost 2 weeks and ended up getting the Lucas PawPaw cream- its FANTASTIC! cleared it up in no time - you can get it from the chemist, I now also use caster oil cream now each nappy change

I have used both the pawpaw and castor oid barrier cream and it makes not difference.
The corn flour seems to be doing ok so far. Its definately not making it any worse....just not sure if its makeing it better yet...

When Ella's was that bad it took about 3 days with the cornflour for it to start clearing up.
Also, don't put any soap or shampoo in with his bathwater while his bot is sore either, those things can irritate the skin further.

I used the bepanthan cream you can get from chemists on my DD bottom - worked a treat for us.
