Hi Everyone,

Mikayla (9 1/2 months) has just started crawling and pulling herself up (she's a late bloomer I think?). She's never been a great sleeper, but recently I did some sleep training with her and started seeing results. I was finally able to put her down in her crib awake, and she'd put herself to sleep, and rather than waking 4-5 times in the night, she was only waking once or twice.

However....in the past week this has all gone out the window and we're back to her sleep being all over the place! The problem now, is she is CONSTANTLY, wanting to practice her new found skills, even in her crib! Even when I'm trying to breast feed her during the day, she rolls away from me, gets up on all 4's and starts trying to crawl. Then the second I put her in her crib, she does the same, trying to move back and forth, or just sitting up and bouncing. Its taking me at least an hour to get her to sleep for her morning nap, and she just won't go to sleep in the afternoon at all. So lately, by 5, 6pm, she's getting really cranky as she's been awake since mid-day, so I've been putting her to bed at 6.30pm, but now she's waking 2-3 times in the night and she's on all 4's again!

I'm hoping some of you with seasoned crawlers, may have some advice/tips...how can I get Mikayla to lie down and stay down in her crib, and get some sleep???

Thanks :-)

Issy was like that when she learnt to crawl ... it was a nightmare for a time .. she was soo wired all the time.

Luckily for us she "grew" out of it and it only lasted a couple of weeks .. we are quite lucky we use a safety sleep .. so she got fed up when she couldnt move and most of the time would give up and go to sleep

Either strap her down (with a safety sleep ) or just pop her down and leave her to it. Eventually she will learn to go to sleep once the novalty wears off

she would get used to it. Ella used to that to when she started crawling- she would wake up around 5 in the morning and want to get out of her cot so she could practice she new found freedom. From memory it lasted maybe 2 weeks at the most.

I would just put her down in the cot and she will eventually figure it out. I had to go back several times and lie Ella back down on the mattress and she eventually got the idea ( it was very annoying for a while through).

It is very common for them to want to practice a new milestone at night, often in their REM sleep. This should just be a phase and it should stop, hopefully for you, very soon! Good luck!
