There is no way I would be putting a steroid cream near anyones eyes,..not even mine. You cant control is she rubs them, or she could move her head in the cot and rub it in her eyes. Sound weird to me.

I have been to a dermatologist a couple of times for myself for eczema on my eyelids and face.

The first time I was told to use it on my face and eyes. It went away but came back again.

I went back again, got a different dermatologist (at the same place) and was told not to use it around eyes long term as it can cause cataracts!! I said the other guy didn't tell me that! Would have been nice to know so I could have made an informed choice. But hey, let's hope that nothing happens.

Anyway, I don't want to scare you so you may want to check with them. I went to the Skin Institute in Takapuna. Who did you go to?

I know that the Skin Insitute have a branch in Remuera so I wonder if it is the same one.

The second time I went, I got a really lovely lady, can't remember her name as it was complicated and she was awesome. I know she works at Remuera sometimes.

I hope Ava's skin clears up soon. Poor wee thing.

You really only get problems if you are using it long term.  Steroid cream can thin the skin and eyelids are thin to start with so use sparingly.  A tiny spot on your finger first.  As for getting it in the eyes...I imagine it would sting.  I'd try and avoid it but it wouldnt be the end of the world if she rubbed a little in.  Topical steroids (usually as drops) in the eye can cause cataracts if used long term (and depends on the steroids...some penetrate through the eye really well, others sit on the surface and treat the surface)  you can also cause a rise in pressure in susceptible people (but you wouldnt know you were).....anyway. you arent using drops in the eye so that wont matter....just giving you some better facts.

bottom line, if dermatologist said its ok and she is really suffering I would just use sparingly (pretend its liquid gold)
