Topic: HELP - Single parent of 4 little ones... Posted: 24 January 2009 at 3:04pm |
Hi,
I am a 25 year old single mum who has 4 children under 6 years of age. Their father isn't actively involved or providing financially & all my family is in Australia.
Looking for help and advice from anyone who has 4 or more children, is a single parent or has experience with either.
Is it possible to find time for each child, maintain the house & have time for myself?
I hear alot that I am elligible to some free child care by a nanny but I cannot find this. Do you know?

I don't know much about what you are entitled to, probably talking to WINZ about your entitlements would be the best thing .
I did however, want to say hi and welcome to OhBaby,I don't have 4 kids , but there are some ladies on here that do, I was a single mum for 3 years with my daughter, I don't think I could have managed four by myself, one was hard enough, hats off to you !
I hope you get some answers, sorry I cant be more help, I didn't want to read and run tho

Hi Jets!!
Here's a hug you're doing a fantastic job. Even if you're not entitld to anything else you should be able to get 20hrs a week free child-care for 3 and 4 year olds in a local child care centre or porse or kindy.

Hi Jets,
My gosh I can't imagine how stressed and worried you get doing that all by yourself. I definately know that you are entitled to the 20hrs free child-care per week per child for 3 and 4 year olds. And you will be entitled to a childcare subsidy for your children under 3. I think that you will also be elligable for some home help and I am pretty sure that is provided through WINZ. I hope this is a little help.

Thanks heaps for the encouraging words.
I'll get back on the phone to WINZ and question them and also make an appointment to see someone there.
Thanks again

Hey Jets
I think you are eligable for free childcare for 20 hours per week if you have kids aged between 3-5 years of age..WINZ will definitely know.

Jets I can't add anything more to what the ladies have already said but just wanted to let you know that I think you are amazing. I find it hard enough dealing with 2 children (well actually 1 toddler and a DH but it's the same thing sometimes!). Hats off to you!!

Hiya,
Hat's off to you. I don't even have one yet but was a child to a solo mother and I have four siblings. Don't forget the support networks available to you.
My mum was supported by Birthright:
http://www.birthright.org.nz/
who in addition to sending us all on camp once a year for a week (not all at the same time), would have christmas parties, send book vouchers etc. I think they were a godsend for Mum and I'm sure there are other organisations out there similar to that.
Good luck!
