Topic: Mandarin Segments Posted: 31 March 2009 at 2:42pm |
Can Caden have mandarin segments at his age? (9 months), Im just trying to think of other fruits he can have, he has a banana a day and orange in his fresh food feeder, I dont give it to him in bits yet because of the white rind stuff, it gets stuck in his throat.
He only has his two bottom teeth so Im unsure of what fruit he can have.....I assume tined pears etc are ok cos they are soft, and he is good at chewing with his gums on soft stuff.
Thanks

At that age I gave Harry tinned fruit and oranges and any other soft fruit (peeled). So yep I gave him mandarin segments, I think at first I kinda peeled them until I could see how he handled them and then I just cut them in half.

I dont see why he couldnt have manadarin segments.
If they seem to big, just cut each segment into half .. (or thirds).

Yeah he should be fine, just bear in mind though he might suck the juice out and spit the rest out. Spencer did that for quite some time before he starting eating them properly.

Ah cool thanks for that
I might start with cutting them in half for him, so he can figure out how to eat it first, new food and all

I cut them in half too, as the skin on the segment is quite hard for them to get though. Sophie just suck out the good bit and spits the rest out .

I gave him some tonight and he did really well, took him a while to swallow each bit lol but he sucked on them until there was nothing left, he had half a mandarin
Im getting more brave with giving him different things now, he always does really well with his food, he just gags on stuff if he tries to swallow to soon, so I will try some other fruits this week as well.
