Topic: contraception Posted: 26 March 2009 at 4:04pm |
Ok so i need to start thinking about this i guess mw keeps asking although im not ready to even consider it atm! (need time for amnesia to set in before i even start to consider letting hubby near me!!!)
Just wondering what is the best option as i was on the injection for 8yrs before Emily but probably/maybe want to have about 2 years between babies so wondering if a pill would be better but have no idea where to start (and im crap at remembering things like that) Any advice/experience? Thanks

You could always have rainjackets on hand
We opted for that between our kids cause I'm a shocker at remembering the pill.
Went for a IUD this time. You could always get one & then get it taken out after 2 years?

Aliasmum how is the IUD? I was going to go for one of them but my Dr wasn't very keen on it... and said if I do get one I should wait at least 3 months for things to go back to 'normal'. She said it was quite intrusive and some people's bodies kinda reject it.

I was on the minipill but kept forgetting to take it so it was often condoms, much to DH's dismay.
I wouldn't go on Depo cos of the delay in getting your period back - if this was your last baby, it would be a different stroy.
I am curious about the IUD - least I wouldn't have to remember to take it every day.

I am on the minipill right now, only thing annoying about it is you have to take it at the same time every day.

I think the mini pill was all that you could use (other than abstinence and condoms) whilst breastfeeding??
We were using condoms .. except I hate those things .. so hence Elias was created

I was on thr mini-pill whilst breastfeeding, but always forgot it, so rubbers it was!
Now I'm not BF'ing and I'm on the normal pill.
I've set an alarm on the phone to go off every night at 8pm (since usually at that time we've just had dinner and done the dishes, so generally I'm available to take it IYKWIM).
Plus DH hates condoms, so he's really good at reminding me.
*eta: My MW prescribed condoms and my mini-pill at her last visit - so we got about 90 for free.
So I'm sure she'll discuss it with you before she signs-off in 3 weeks

We haven't fully decided either. We both hate condoms, I don't like the minipill (chances of aborting), I'm not sure about the IUD because I'm likely to want it out by 2yrs at the latest (is my guess, that's if we decide to have a 5th) and family planning sucks... cause you don't get to make out at the time of month when you're most horny!! Maybe we'll do NFP with condoms... or IUD is really looking the most likely so far...

PS If you don't want to decide yet, leave it for the 6wk checkup with your GP

IUD here - when I get around to it. It's not really an issue at the moment - it's amazing what years of chronic sleep deprivation does to your sex life

I am on the mini pill and it says you have to take it the same time but within 3 hours of that time... I suck at taking it at the same time, always forget but I always manage within the 3 hour grace, this will be ok won't it? It says it isn't as effective as the other pill but my Dr said BF is a pretty good contraceptive too.

I think if you take it within that 3 hour window, you still have to use other measures for 14 days, just to be on the safe side.

I thought the minipill was fine as long as it was within the three-hour window? (compared to 12 for the combined pill).
What does it say on the leaflet that comes with it?

Don't rely on BF as contraception - I got pg 3 times that way (Only one of those was a surprise though, and it miscarried).

Minipill is 3 hours (I hope) but check the fine print or give your pharmacist a ring. There's a new unfunded minipill that is 12 hours, I think.

Yup - the unfunded minipill is Cerazette which I am taking - gives you 12hrs. Costs around $40 a month though...but still cheaper than a new baby! Hopefully stop BF'ing in 3 months so I can get back to the normal pill.

It was DH's suggestion that we use condoms after Jack was born rather than me go back on the pill which was fine by me, my memory is so shocking nowdays that I would have forgotten to take it!
