Hi,
Sorry yet more questions about food but........
I have the watties guide they give you the colourful list of what to have etc etc and i'm lost.
It says no kiwi fruit until 8 months, yet it has kiwi fruit in one of their jarred foods you can offer from 4 months, the same goes for sweetcorn
So i have given him a jar of pumpkin and sweetcorn (as I ran out of stuff at home) and he loved it, so I thought I would do some sweetcorn myself but then I saw the list and it was a stage 3.
Gah, talk about confusing.
What is the stuff I should really keep away from?
Also i am confused over I know there should be no cows milk until 12 months, yet the list says yoghurt and cheese from 7 months - is this right?

From what I've read, the difference with their canned / jar food is the cooking process for those foods. Apparently it is at a muich higher heat or something to do with the way they can process them to make them easier for babies to digest.
I think the whole yoghurt / cheese thing is the same. We've given Ollie both yoghurt and cheese from about 8 months or so and he's seemed fine with both.
You sound like you have a very happy wee eater if he's keen on the pumpkin and sweetcorn. Have you tried the peach and semolina in the red cans? Ollie absolutely loves those!

*touching wood* yes I haven't found he refuses much..........yet.
Some of the more stronger veg, brocolli, cauli are accepted if mixed with sweet potato, in fact most foods are accepted if sweet potato is involved.
Peach and semolina - he's had peach and we've moved from baby rice to muesli which goes down better.
Will hold off on dairy for now then.

I think sometimes it is to do with having bits in. So when you make peas at home and blend them you still have bits of skin in them which can be hard for them to eat when first starting out but watties are able to mush their peas down better. I assume with Kiwi it is properly the same deal with the pips.
If you want to do peas and corn though you can blend them and then push them through a sieve to get all the skins out. I personally just didn't bother with them until he was about 7-8 months old and could deal with a few bits in his food.

Sticking with bases of pumpkin, kumara and pear is probably easiest and add the other stuff in another say 2mos.

Isn't it funny how they seem to love one thing in particular. Just don't do what we did and over feed on that thing. Ollie won't touch banana at all now - after having it every day for several months!!!

Ha ha. My little 5th percentile baby has just started taking avocado. I plan on giving it to him every day as it is such a high fat content!!!
Fi, I think any food (except the stage 4 items, as there are specific reasons for waiting till one year on) are ok as long as they can be pureed really well. I think the chart is more for chunks of things (eg a piece of kiwifruit as opposed to pureed kiwifruit). But the skins of things like peas and corn can make it tricky as they can get stuck in little throats.
You'll be pleased to hear that Jackson is finally opening that clampy little mouth of his. But ONLY if he is holding the spoon himself. Seriously, only if he is holding it himself. Imagine the mess!

Its also for raw and cooked foods. I think they assume that most fruit like kiwifruit will be given raw. And you might find that in the jar food the percentage of kiwifruit is quite small. You definately don't want to give too much kiwi as it is very hard on their tummys and cause diahorea!
