Dani is about 3 1/2 months old (or 2 1/2 adjusted) and when she does tummy time she still cant hold her head up. She just lies there, cheek to the ground and thats it!! When i hold her she can support her own head.
What Im really wondering - is this ok? My other two were lifting their heads high after about 7 weeks. Is this something to go to the GP with? We dont see plunket until 5 months old.

One of the things we were told about preemies was that holding their heads up can be something they take longer to get sussed than full term babies - even longer than their adjusted age IYKWIM.

Yeah she might just hate tummy time. Cooper hates it. Far prefered to stand. Could be to do with squishing the tummy. Is she a bit refluxy??

Emily never held her head up when on her tummy till about 3-4 weeks ago all she would do was suck the blanket/carpet (what ever she was lying on) and get really grumpy yet when i was holding her she was fine. the plunket nurse we had suggested poping a tri pillow under her chest to help her and just do it for 30sec to 1min a coupl of times a day.
She now can hold her head no worries so i wouldnt worry too much if i was you, maybe have a chat to plunket there is a specific tummy time think you can buy its a frog i cant remember the brand though sorry

Campbell isn't a fan of tummy time, and was doing the same thing for a long time. He's just started pushing up onto his hands!
I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure she'll get there in her own time, and surprise you when she does!

Great!! thanks guys, its amazing, i always seem to find something to worry about!
I feel heaps better now, she is refluxy and always spills when having tummy time - but it doesnt really bother her. Will just keep encouraging her and go from there!

Muz, Harry only held his head up at 13 weeks - 10 weeks adjusted. He went through a stage of hating tummy time and then one day just lifted his head and started smiling.

if you are worried talk to your GP about it.. but both my boys were really different. Reef (first born) held his head up early as, yet Tyde took AGES to do it...
I really think it's pretty scattered as to when it happens for each baby... e.g. Tyde didn't smile till he was over 10wks! :)

Gabrielle was 6 weeks prem and didn't manage to get the hang of holding her head up till she was about 5 months old (which I guess would have been 3 1/2 months adjusted). One thing I did do for her was baby massage after her bath when she was lying on her tummy. Her head control still isn't great now (not as good as other babies her adjusted age) but like someone else said, the paed mentioned to me that that wasn't unusual for premmies.

Oh, also forgot to mention that I know how you feel about always finding something else to worry about! Gabrielle has been slow to meet her milestones (behind even her adjusted age) but the doctor told me that premmies have had a bit more to deal with than the average full term baby so that can sometimes be the case. Also I guess all babies are different anyway so its hard to tell what normal is.

Daniel is exactly the same Muz. He is 3 months old exactly tomorrow and just hates tummy time and will lie there and try to move his head up but not do very well and then cry. He holds his head up pretty well when up though.
Now I do tummy time with Daniel across my lap. I cross my legs and have his head at the higher end and he seems to cope with this a lot longer.

I have known babies that hate tummy time but hold their head up when being held. They have all turned out super they are doing all the things other babies around them are doing.
If you are still worried then there is no harm in going to Plunket.

This is a little OT but just for those of you with babies that don't like tummy time...I never gave my son tummy time (I don't believe it is necessary). He started having tummy time when he could get onto his tummy himself. He has always had a strong neck and is doing the same things on his tummy now that other babies in my coffee group are doing who had tummy time. Moral of the story - I wouldn't force them to have tummy time if it is making them upset, they develop just as well without it :) (obviously this may be different for premmies - I don't know anything about them!)
