Hi girls
I need a bit of advice.
My little boy seems so uncomfy while farting and hasn't pooed since yesterday. Although he slept well last night, we had a 5 hour awake time yesterday afternoon and he wasn't happy.
The Pharmacy is closed (living in Oxford), so do you have any suggestions I can do so he poos?
if al else fails then add a wee bit of brown sugar to cooled boiled water. some midwifes still recomend it but some are against it so its personal choice babies can go up to 5 days without pooing and it not be a prob though so maybe wait it out and see what happens unless it gets really bad
best time to try and feed them water is just before they are due for their bottle. DS doesnt like water so unless he is starving he wont drink it. he doesnt mind it with brown sugar though.
plunket lady told me to add 10-20ml extra water than the formula tin says just to get more fluids into him and help it travel through although with bubs being so young i would add more than 10ml per feed.
Asli, I wouldn't worry too much unless he seems to be in pain. It's quite normal for Ava to only poo every 2nd day and shes a FF bub too.
You can give him a bit of nappy off time and gently push his legs up into his stomach a few times to help him go. If that doesn't work, water like the others said (and my m/w does recommend a wee bit of brown sugar, but some don't). With adding water to bottles, some people are dead against this. I haven't done it for Ava yet as she doesn't need the extra water with it not being summer and all (and she poos OK most of the time) but for Jack (being born Jan) the only way I could get water into him was to add it to his bottles. So I added 10ml for the first 5 feeds of the day and it helped immensely. So you could try that if you can't get plain water in. Bear in mind some people really advise against it, but I say whatever works (and as long as you're not replacing formula with water so he ends up hungry, I reckon its OK).
I think it would be fine to put a little bit of extra water in one or two bottles if he won't drink it straight. I think the dangerous thing would be adding extra powder.
