For some reason I just had a brilliant idea!

Was about to moosh up some pears for Coopers lunch when I decided I was going to stick whizz the whole can!

So I just made 410g tin of pears into pear puree for ONE DOLLAR rather than paying over a dollar for a 120gm tin.

So what I did was pour of some of the syrup, stick in the whizz & slowly push it downwards. For a younger baby I'd keep whizzing it for a few mins. You could make it thicker or smoother depending on how much syrup you kept. Pop the rest in the fridge in a plastic container

I used SPC which I had bought 5 for $5

I've done that before too, it's great isn't it? Otherwise if you want to buy pre-packaged pureed fruit they sell them in small pottles in the canned fruit aisle, and they work out a lot cheaper (and a bigger size) than buying the baby food version - still not as cost efficient as pureeing a can yourself though.

I bought some fruit the other day to do this. Am I correct in thinking you have to use the fruit in juice rather than syrup?

Wouldn't the canned pears in syrup have sugar in them? Just a thought.

Hmmm they do have sugar, not sure about the juice ones cause I don't get that type of pears for other reasons <sigh>

I guess just pour off all the juice/syrup.

I've been told to use the ones canned in juice only, because of the added sugar in the syrup cans. I'm going to try pureeing some canned peaches tomorrow, thought I'd rinse them under water first, so that even with the juice ones you're getting rid of any extra sugar.

I was told at the plunket solids talk to use the ones in juice only too. Just a side note, foodtown's weekend wind back has 5 cans for $4 from today till Sunday.

Great idea!!   I might start stocking up on various canned fruit when they're on special. Must get a stick wizz too, they seem like a must with pureeing baby food.
