Topic: Sleeping too much?? Help! Posted: 22 September 2009 at 11:59am |
Don't laugh
Ashley is 6.5 weeks. All she does is eat and sleep! It has been this way for a week but seems more pronounced for the last 2 days. She feeds 3.5 to 4 hourly through the day and sleeps in between. She doesn't want any awake time other than eating. If I try to do anything else with her she just squirms and wants to go back to bed.
She didn't cry once yesterday - just said "ah-goo" to toys before going to sleep and "eh" when she woke. She hasn't been playing or smiling like usual. However, she doesn't seem sick, has good colour etc.
She slept 11 hours last night and as of now (midday) has only been up for a total of 1.5 hours (3 feeds since 5.50am).
Plunket thinks she needs to see a doc. I'm home with a really bad migraine....What do you think?

Personally I remember being worried about the exact same thing when my two were the same age. I think most babies do this in the early weeks. Maybe a growth spurt is tiring her out.
However if Plunket are suggesting a doctor check her out I would absolutly do it just to be on the safe side. Even though I think Plunket are full of C$%P 80% of the time lol Still better to be safe than sorry.

I was worried about keira when she was a few weeks old, I was worried she was sleeping too much as she wouldn''t feed without falling asleep and was all floppy and non responsive when trying to wake her, we changed her, bathed her, poked her, blew in her face everything haha... we took her to the doctor and guess who woke up happy and fully alert??? I was told to enjoy it before she changed...

My boy was always very sleepy from birth. The first 6 weeks all the pics of him are asleep! And when he went through growth spurts he never got hungry like other babies, just slept more. I wouldn't worry too much, but when someone tells you to take them you really feel you have to. Which sucks!
Hope you get some more sleep soon!

Turns out the sleepy quiet baby was a sick baby. She is covered in hundreds of tiny red dots - a post viral rash :( She is back to her usual self now though thankfully.

that's so good you took her to the docs! Was watching this thread, as I thought it wasn't a good thing to be so unresponsive while awake. Great that she's back to her normal self!!
