Topic: Rolling, Crawling and Sleeping Posted: 23 November 2009 at 8:08pm |
It's driving me batty!!!
Pretty much everytime I put DS to bed (day or night) he rolls over straight away and starts crawling around his cot, after a while he starts crying so I'll flip him back over and tuck him in again.
He has a safety sleep in there too but as soon as I leave the room after strapping him in he starts to cry. I had thought about a sleeping bag but we just can't afford one and the one that we do have is too hot.
It means he's not having hardly any sleep during the day and nighttime is taking forever and I usually have to get him up again and feed him etc and put him back to bed by which stage he's so overtired he'll usually fall asleep while feeding.
How can I get him to go to sleep? He was sleeping thru but now he'll occasionally wake during the night and/or wake up at around 5am, It's really doing my head in.

He he, welcome to the club Lisa! Cam is doing that too! I usually have to hold him and cuddle him to sleep during the day, once he's tired out enough! Night times aren't so bad, he's still waking once or twice a night, but he's always done that.
And Cam is in a sleeping bag (albeit a homemade, loose one), and it doesn't stop him, he just gets it twisted up!
Apparently its just a stage, once they've mastered the skill (e.g. crawling), they normally go back to normal sleep patterns. I really hope so!

Yep just a stage, hang in there. Mine have gone through the "isn't it fun to stand up in the cot" stage as well, sleeping bags don't stop that one either. But it does pass.

Oh Joy It's funny cause just after I posted this last night he fell asleep, face down and across his cot! Thankfully I was able to move him back under his blanket without waking him but he did wake twice.
I guess I just need to take a deep breath and leave him to it!!

Hi ms H23, how are you getting on? I have exactly the same problem. I got DS down for his first sleep of the day at 5pm last night... Am at my wits end. Was wondering if you had any breakthroughs!!

I use to just leave Taylah. She use to play for over an hour sometimes before finally falling asleep. I just left her to it, i never went in because she would cry & then wouldnt settle.
I use to only use the safe t sleep at night. I now put her in a sleeping bag which i prefer to the safe t sleep.
Just make sure the room is warm & your ds is dressed warm enough & put a blanket over him when he falls asleep

Same problem here! I've taken to holding DD (9months) and cuddling/rocking till she's almost alseep during the day and then putting her into the cot. That way I avoid the problem
I'm hoping that this will be temporary, although I guess it'll be the same problem when they start pulling themselves up to standing in the cot!!!

If he was just crawling around it would be ok, but he was soooo overtired tonight it was lots of screaming again, but took just under an hour and I think he's asleep. I've just been going back in every few minutes and giving him a cuddle and lying him down again. He woke twice during the night last night, but not cause he was uncovered, I hope he doesn't do it again tonight!
Now that I know I'm not the only one and it does get better it makes it easier to deal with, he's just started pulling himself up on stuff at the moment too so hopefully he'll get that nonsense out of the way soon!
Ali, jeepers please don't scare me like that lol.

Same stuff happening here too! - even with a sleeping bag DS still manages to move around - then sits there and starts crying. We tend to just leave him to it now and he has worked out how to get himself to sleep. However we do at times have to just sit with him until he sleeps.
glad to hear its only a phase - now waiting for the standing up one...
