Topic: 13month old day sleeps!!! Posted: 22 November 2009 at 8:39am |
So Leah has always been a good sleeper day & night she is currently having two day sleeps and sleeping from 7pm- 6.30 or 7am, and the last couple of days she wont have her day sleeps unless I sshh her and pat her belly!! Or if we go for a drive. She will just stand in her cot and play or cry!!
People have said to me maybe shes trying to tell you she doesnt need one of her sleeps, but been her mummy I can tell she is stil needing two sleeps coz she will get grumpy and BIG bags under her eyes, so I know she needs them both!
Is this just a thing they try with parents at this age or do you really think she might be telling me no to a sleep.
Oh and her two naps are only 45mins long but enough for her.
Please help, is there anything I can try to get her to sleep by herself again!!!
Thanks for reading

At 13 months DS went to one sleep a day, but it was twice as long.
Have you adjusted the timing and the food? Maybe start moving the morning sleep later, so eventually in a month or so it starts at 11am. And move the afternoon sleep later, and restrict the length to 30 min.
When this started being an issue with DS I realised that he was stll hungry, and wouldn't go to sleep until he had more food. So I piled up the food before his sleep and he had 2 lunches for while, one either side of his one lunchtime sleep.

Jake went down to one long sleep at that age (he usually had one long and one a little shorter) so we moved it to later in the morning (after early lunch) and put him in bed 30mins earlier at night for a while. It definitely takes a few weeks of them being a little more tired/grouchy by the end of the day before they get used to it. But yep, sounds like shes ready for one .... I'd just moved it to after an early lunch.

Caden dropped one of his day sleeps at 13 months aswell, he just slept for longer, like he does 3 hour sleeps usually, so it is possible that she is telling you she doesnt want two sleeps, even if she looks tired.
What we do now is, Caden goes down for a sleep at 11 or 12 after some lunch or a snack and he sleeps until 2 or 3 and then he is in bed for the night by 6.30-7, workes out well

We did exactly what Sheza said -- held him out til 11am, gave him an early lunch, then down about 11.30ish and slept for a few hours, then had a big afternoon tea after he got up. He started going to one nap just before a year and still had two some days til about 14 months when he went to one permanently, at about 12oclock. At the start he went to bed by 6.30 instead of 7pm. He still sleeps for 3 hours some days (goes down closer to 1pm now though).
