Topic: Growth Scan weigh vs birth weight Posted: 09 December 2009 at 9:51pm |
I put this in the pregnancy thread but thought it was probably better in here so....
So I am curious - I have had 2 grwoth scans in 2 seperate pregnancies..
First was at 35.2 weeks and he was 7lb then - born at 39 weeks 9lb 4oz (so 11 oz per week on adverage)
This one is measuring 6lb at 35.3 weeks and well I dont know when she will arrive
So wondering what was your growth scan weigh to your actually baby born weigh?
Hope that makes sense!

With one I had a growth scan at 39 weeks where they said he was 7lb something (sorry cant remember the oz now) he was born a week later weighing 10lb.....I seriously doubt he put on 3lb in a week, lol
another baby at 36 weeks they said baby was 8lb ?oz something and he was born at almost 41 weeks and was 8lb 2oz
neither of mine were even close but then they didnt even get the sex right of the last one
Ive got baby brain at the mo but if I can remember the others Ill post again

I cant remember the specific gestation and weight measures but my DS tracked along his graph for just over 10lbs at due date and he was 9lb 13oz at 16days over due. I think in the last month he slowed down his growth a little bit.

I had a scan at 31+ weeks after my waters broke early and they estimated C's weight at 1.8kg. He was born 5 days later (32 weeks) at 1.92kg. Probably not all that much help to you although I do remember them saying he should be 2kg + within "a few days" at the scan .. and he wasn't.

I had a growth scan at 36.5 weeks, estimated his weight at 3043g (6lbs 11oz). H was born at 37.2 weeks, birth weight 3015g (6lb 10oz). So pretty spot on!

I was due for my last growth scan the day I had the girls...from the previous ones, we were expecting them to be about 5lb each at that scan(they were putting on about a lb every fortnight). They were born 1/2 an hour before the scan time at 5lb1oz and 4lb12oz so pretty darned close.
A lot of it depends on the positioning etc of bubs, as sometimes the way they are lying means the measurements are out, and this can skew the results.

We had our last growth scan a couple of days before I had the girls and it was only a few hundred grams out from recollection.

They reckoned JJ was 8lb 2oz at 36 weeks which would have put him at around 10lb at term and he was 8lb 13oz (born 40w 3d). And I'm pretty certain his growth didn't slow down. So I'm a bit dubious about the formula they use!

i had 4 growth scans in total at 32wks they predicted he was 7p, so full term could be around 4 - 4.5 kg or 9 or 10 p.
he was born at 39 weeks weighed 9p 7oz. or 4.29kg so pretty close.
i wonder what he would have been if 40 or 42 weeks DH thinks 11 or 12p!
Anyway both my boys were bigger it's a great start to life i say,

Milo gosh Rhyley was measuring 7lb at my 35 week growth scan and he was born at 39 weeks 9lb 4oz - if he was 7lb at 32 weeks I woulld hate to see what weigh he would of been - were they not too bothered about the 7lb at 32 weeks?

at 40wks they estimated DS at 4.5kg, arrived 2 days later at 3.6kg.
Though they did say the closed to full-term the less accurate the weight estimate would be.

I had one at 32 weeks and he was 2kg and then one at 40 weeks 6 days and he was 4.3kg. He was born 4 days later weighing 4.4kg. So pretty accurate really. I was hoping they'd be way off and he'd be smaller haha!!

I had a scan at 37 weeks and estimated weight was just under 9lb. He was born at 38 weeks and was exactly 9lb. So very accurate in my case.

My scan was about 36wks, estimated 7lbs then, born 39w5d at 9lbs 1oz (they guessed at least 9lbs full term, so pretty good estimate). I've heard of heaps of babys where they get it completely wrong though.
