just really putting out the question (for mum's who pick their child up from school at 3pm)

If the school your child/ren went to had a preschool attached, would you consider picking up one 4 year old as well as your own child/ren to look after until 4/4:30pm each day?

If so, what would you consider a fair $$? (We're in Auckland) $80-100 a week? More? Less?

(just tossing up some thoughts, I would love to send my child to a preschool which is attached to the primary school we want him to attend for at least 6 months, possibly a year before he starts school, but they close at 3:15pm, and I don't finish work till 3:30/4pm)

another option is to talk to the preschool & see if anyone else is in the same position & if other mums would do it.

Does the school have after hour care & if so they maybe able to take a 4yr old..worth asking.

I looked at getting home care for a few days after school & it was at a good price & she would of picked up my 2 from school & look after my preschooler for 2 hrs on the days needs. It was through an agency. Did not need it in the end.

I don't know the going rate but $10-15 sounds good

I could talk to them, hadn't really thought about that, but i know the school after school care clearly states from 5years of age.

Just trying to work the logistics of how we will do it, mind blank!

It is hard working childcare out when working.

A few of the mums at kindy used to do it & it worked really well for them, 1 did it through Porse. Great play date too.
Maybe try Porse or one of them to see what they can do. You may get someone who can pick him up & take him home & play with him...or put dinner on & do some housework.

When I looked at it it was for 1 week on one week off 5 days from 2-4pm. She was to come to my house & watch him, also had the option of her picking the other 2 up from school & also getting someone to do stuff if I wanted. The cost varied but still worth it. I did not take the job in the end so never need it.

Could you talk to the daycare and get the teachers to ask other parents if any of them would consider looking after an extra child for an hour or 2 in the afternoons? Or maybe the school could put a note in their school notice? If anything like that came up here I'd happily take it up, I'm always home in the afternoons, have heaps of toys so one extra to occupy the lounge wouldnt bother me. As for $, most preschools around here charge $5-7 per hour, and since it would only be up to 1.5 hours per day, I'd say around $80 a week would suffice. Then again, daycare may not be as cheap up your way, so may have to offer more. Also depends on whether you provide afternoon tea or not etc...

I looked at home based care so Jake could keep giong to kindy on a day I work, and his kindy recommended a few ladies who did it and went through various agencies or private arrangements and most still had kids at kindy but one had a school ages boy. the price was around $5-8/hr (mostly closer to 5). so maybe ask the preschool if they know of any mums wanting work?
