DS2 is 5 months and learning how to crawl standing on hands and knees rocking and getting very upset. He is also teethign and just got his bottom front two teeth. He has very good hearign and will not sleep when there is sound, quite a problem as we have a toddler as well DS1, 20 months approx. Henrik ihas started wakign about 5-10times a night and this is realy starting to wear me down.

DS1 and DS2 are currently playing tag aka one must always be crying. It is really starting to do my head in. My DH came with the brilliant suggestion this morning that I shoudl put DS2 in a routine. Easier said then done.
Any ideas??? I'm really starting to fall apart

pamol - if he is teething and upset then give him some pain relief. and getting them into a routine isnt that hard...

Does DS#1 have one nap? Combine them both at this nap. with DS#2 having one either side as well?

You need to teach both of them to be gentle & if one hits the other, warn them gentle, if they do it again, remove the one making the other cry. You need to teach them to share. Just remembered one is 5 months! Teach the older one this for sure!

I have a 19mo age gap between my two, DD has only just started sleeping 8 hours a night and is now waking up 2-3 times again (was 5 up until then). It was vital, with me working and DH always away, to get them both in a set routine, make sure they had their big sleep at the same time (to give me or the caregiver a break) and to harden up a bit.

5-10 times a night is habit or discomfort, not hunger (unless of course you're not feeding him during the day lol). If he has a dummy, get rid of it as it may be causing the issues. We are in the process of doing that too, but DD is sick today so I've been lazy.

He could just be wanting cuddles, in that case, get DH to get up to him. It's often a mummy thing and when they realise mummy isn't coming if they wake up, more often than not they go back to sleep.

I don't know if any of that makes sense though, just what we've tried and been told.

Thank you emz I might try that, I have had a feelign for a while now that it might be a mummy thign as he only wants me when he cries. A little tough because I work full time (from home). I tried lettign him self settle last night and went into the room about 6 times before he finally lulled off to sleep but today at lunchtime he went down after only walking in 2 times so maybe it is working. But I'll try the DH walking in and settlign him tonight as last night was another one of those wakign all the time nights (and he is definately not hungry)

Try reading some of the info on the sleepstore I use this all the time for help regaring sleeping and routines.

My DD started feeding 2-3 hourly about a month ago and then got into a habit which we are slowly trying to break. She's now stretching out her sleeping to 4-5hours at a time at night (yay!). I'm looking forward to her doing 9 hours again.
