Hi

Just wondering if anyone knows about the rota virus vaccine - if they got it and why/why not.

Not really wanting to enter a debate about vaccinations but trying to find out more information about it.

Cheers

I suggest reading the package insert for ANY vaccine you are going to give, that has way more information in it than what you will find anywhere else, and IMO always makes for interesting reading. The Rotarix one can be found here

The rotavirus vaccine was never on my radar. I had an ebf baby and bf babies don't tend to get rotavirus in the first place, and if they do it tends to be milder as human milk has a protein in it that binds to rotavirus and prevents replication. There wasn't a Rotavirus vaccine when DS1 was a baby.

ds peadeatrician recommended that I get it for ds, I was thinking about it, then he ended up in hospital with a uti we were discharged and ended up back in hospital with the rotavirus that he caught whilst in hospital! he was 4 months old and was terrible, I wish I had vacinated him now, will be doing number two for sure.

We'd vaccinate number 2 after a week of rotavirus which almost landed us in hospital so many times. Was hideous. I think the vaccine (oral) needs to be completed by 24 weeks so there's not heaps of time to think about it
