I don't live there myself. But I have a friend that does and she likes it. She talks positively about the public kindy. I think that Pukete primary has an ok reputation. Some streets are better than others though...

For the most part Pukete is a good area (as Mum_me said there are a few streets to avoid though). I used to live on Pohutukawa Dr and really loved it I found it a good mix of families and young people. My friend currently lives in Ronald Ct and she says it is very family friendly. Te Rapa primary is meant to be a very good school and I've also heard good things about the kindy. Can I ask what street you are looking at?

I've heard good things about Te Rapa Primary too, I think it's zoned for Fraser High School, though that is ages away for us and apparently there's going to be a new high school built anyway.
We are looking at a place down Church Road.

I'm in pukete. I like the area. I have my kids in pukete school which I am ok with at the moment. Te Rapa I feel is a better school but we aren't in the zone and I missed out on two out of zone ballots. Also they go up to intermediate so you don't have to worry about the zoned intermediate school. Zoned high school is fraser so we have put the 14 year old in private school but once the proposed High School in rototuna gets approved we should be zoned for that. Too late for my oldest two but possibly ok for the younger one.
I would avoid sherwood ave. Now don't be put off as there isn't too much that goes on there but the Mongrel mob has a house there. It is a case of nothing ever goes down there but everyone knows where the house is. It is very tidy just has high fences and heads with caps that constantly look out from it keeping watch.
The kindy is fantastic and I can't praise it enough. Absolutely love the kindy. It is a short walk to the river with fantastic walking tracks and ducks to feed. The neighbourhood house has afterschool care. They do meat and vege co-op on thursdays and scones on tuesdays I think. A news letter comes out with all the goings on. We are currently trying to get the local
playground upgraded.
As for shopping we never go into town. We have everything at the base or chartwell which is all within a 5 min drive in each direction. The biggest bonus is we are on the city side of the river. No bridge traffic in the morning or at rush hour times. Although pukete roundabout gets clogged around 4-6pm but with the new four laning of the expressway and the bridge that should get better but it isn't completed until mar 2013 I think.
I didn't chose to live here. We took over my DH childhood home so that is why we are in the area but I love it. Lots of young families.

Church Rd is nice . The end of it does comes out on to Te Rapa straight, so it may get a little busy at peak times with through traffic.
We are also zoned for Fraser, however we are on the opposite side of town lol. It's good to hear they are going to build a new high school.
All the best with your house hunting!

My good friend lives on Church Rd & I really like visiting her. The area is very quiet & the river walks nearby are nice. Being close to "the base" shopping centre is good too.
Church Rd is a very long Rd & the houses don't start until a fair way from the te rapa strait end. The other end is now a dead end, that used to be very busy with people cutting through but it's super quiet now.

Live in Pukete for a year and a half, down Oakfield cres which is off Sherwood...Nice quiet street. Yep the Mob pad is there, but they are harmless, and actually make sure that things are fine around the area..so yea you see their red caps poking over the fence but they're alright. SIL went to Te Rapa Primary, did well there, and then was zoned for Fraser High. Would definitely live there again..close to base and chartwell.

I live in Pukete - off Church Road . We love it here, have been here 3 years. Its lovely and quiet, the neighbours are super friendly, and it is really handy to a lot of things - heaps of families live in this area. As a side note - houses in this area hold their value really well. We are possibly going to have to sell up and move north for DH's work. We bought at 305K 3 years ago at the height of the property boom, and our valuation has come out at 314K - pretty stoked about that! Te Rapa is a fantastic school and we are zoned for it and Te Kowhai - about 5mins drive up the road, good school too! (I'm also a teacher) with the added bonus of going to year 8. Fraser is the nearest high school at the moment.

Well our house has sold our offer was accepted on the house on Church Road...yay! Move on the 19th.
Now I need to find a DC for DD in Pukete, she currently goes to Country Creche in Matangi which i LOVE, but it's just too far out of the way.
Can you lovely ladies please recommend a DC in Pukete or nearby? I plan to go and visit them (I think there's 3 in Pukete) this week to suss them out, but would love someone else's opinion first.
Thanks!!!

There is bright babes on the corner of pukete and cullimore. Also lollipops educare on church road down by the cock and bull and also the one in the carpark of the cock and bull. Also one just down I think vickery st by northcare.
Welcome to the neighbourhood. Go down to the pukete neighbourhood house if you need any info. It is off church road up by the big white house on the hill. That is where they do the meat and vege co-ops. They are lovely down there and can give you lots of info.
Good luck with the move.

I heard that one of the daycares by the cock and bull (not sure which one) lost 6 of its teachers at the same time. Not sure why, but check the turnover rate when you're asking around.

I think that was the Lollipops one. I checked their ERO report out and it had mentioned they went through a high staff turnover when they changed management.
