Just considering some options for child care at the moment and was wondering if anyone had any info/experience on legal issues etc when a friend is going to provide child care for us in their own home (with trips out and about etc). We don't want anything too formal but we want to make sure certain issues are considered.

Would be grateful for any advice!

You could look into a homebased childcare provider, like barnados- your friend could join up, you pay them and they pay her and provide her with firstaid etc training, toys and equipment for your child etc. Even if u dont end up going through them and make a private arrangment at least you will probably get more info by investigating that option , and it may bring up issues that u hadnt considered.

My friend looked after her neice several days a week, and she wished she had sat down with her brother and come to an arrangemnet before it started cos even way down the track he had still never even offered her any money, so she had to pay for her nieces food etc if they went to a cafe and she was getting stuff for her daughter, and fro zoo etc entry fees. Her husband was workinga nd she was not, yet her bro and his partner were both working flltime but didnt give her anything, but she didnt want to bring it up, but wishes she had at the beginning.

I guess things to discuss would be- payment, money for your childs activities etc, who would provide food/drinks, getting her to do a basic cpr course, having set hrs/days- can she do etc if u are running late from work etc, what happens if your child is sick, or if she is sick?, what equipment would she need in her hosue for your child, like stair gates/highchair/carseat/buggy etc, maybe consider joining a toy library and lirbabry fr your child so she can get out toys and books for your child for at her place.
