Gosh there are some... unusual... gifts people come up with!
We haven't really been given much which is weird - although MIL got the girls a 3-pack of t-shirts which were OBVIOUSLY for boys (one of them even said something similar to #1 son). Found that slightly offensive - not sure if she meant it to be or not....

some of these gifts are unbelievably weird.....what on earth is that pussy one about???!
I've been given $2 shop type stuff, which goes straight into the bin or dress up box, but thankfully nothing too weird - i have pretty great relatives and ILs!
Oh I have been given a little bikini for my daughter, for her 2nd birthday...I thought that was a little weird. I tried it on her once and the top just kept riding up around her neck....duhhh.

MIL sent a snow suit from the UK. It was for a 3-6 mth old and DD was 6 months in Feb so it still has the tags on it 2 years later. If we have a really long, cold winter and this baby is big then perhaps we will use it this year, or maybe not.
My Nana also gave her a boys checked shirt. She said she knew it was for boys but the fabric was nice and soft! huh? Oh Nana, bless her

Man there have been some odd things. I also can't believe that there are people out there that come up with the ideas for some of those pieces of clothing. DP and I were in a surf shop a while back and I was looking at the kids stuff and there was a size 0 bikini. Now I thought that was completely inappropriate!!

i've seen a leather mini, in cotton on kids. It tiny like belt size. and no I did not buy it. And family firend sent DS a frilly orang and blue pillow case. MIL bought DD a pink flannel. It was one of her first gifts.
I think I've had loads of 'unuseful' gifts that I've got rid of.

at the pussy shirt. I would be actually really really mad if someone gave my kid something like that! I like witty shirts on kids, but not dodgy ones.
We were very lucky with presents, didn't have anything way out. Nothing as funny as what's been mentioned
ETA Kind of unrelated, but on the gifts thing - my friend asked me if I minded a second-hand gift, as she wanted to give me a baby swing, but obviously couldn't afford to go round giving new ones as gifts. I thought it was nice to ask (and I have no issues with secondhand stuff at all, so was very grateful for it).

Me too! It's bad enough going shopping for our little girls and finding nothing but skanky type clothes that you would see on teenagers on a friday night in town.
Anyways, back on topic
Our boy was given a singing dog for Christmas. It's ears flap and shake but it also sings Shania Twain's "I'll Get You Good"...I found that totally inappropriate for an 8mnth old. Lucky he's too young to understand the words.

dd's grandmother on her father sside bought her a hideous wooly , grren, very expensive looking cardigan for her 1st birtday that was 3-6month age . She hadnt seen dd since she was born ( and still hasnt made any effort and shes 18mths old) so i understand she may not of known how big she was but still 3-6months???? its the only thing shes ever bought her too (apart from some overly expensive teddy thing when she was born ).

hah, i quite regularly buy my skanky friday night clubbing outfits from the kids section in famers/kmart, which is great for me because they're cheaper then adults clothing but a little terrifying that they're not meant for adults, but for kids.

We didn't get anything too shocking but one friend sent T shirt that DS never wore. It said "my mums a MILF" I couldn't bring myself to out it on him I would feel like I was telling everyone how hot I thought I was.

I know some other people love them, but I really don't like slogans on t-shirts! esp rude or dodgy ones, what kind of message are you sending out about your parenting skills, how you're raising your kids or how other people are going to see them?!
Re- Leather Mini - that's shocking!! when I was little I lived in bike shorts and oversized t's!
$2 shop gifts.. sometimes I think it's better if people don't bother..

I have seen t-shirts for babies that have "the condom broke" on them and another one I can't remember, but it was along the lines that the baby was never wanted - horrible!
We haven't had anything too weird. A few things given before DD was born that she won't be able to play with until at least 3-4 years old.

MIL gave DS a couple of bibs and singlets from the warehouse - not a biggie, but they still had the prices attached and were given in the warehouse bag (no gift wrap or card). For DD she gave a teatowel - no tags this time! In fact I think it might have come out of her own kitchen...

OMG couldn't help but have a giggle.
My mum hates wrapping and will give DD's presents early and without being wrapped and then when her birthday and Christmas came around and everyone was giving wrapped presents she didn't have anything to give lol. I think she was just excited about giving them to DD though and didn't want to wait, but its a shame she doesn't put a little thought into wrapping and a card and giving on the day as a surprise.

63 newborn sized knitted cardigans for our November baby. From MIL.
As well as about 10 boxes full of (ugly and/or stained) clothes that we never used.
We did find about 20 of the old style cloth nappies among the many many many piles of things she turned up with, they were appreciated and quite a few muslin cloths.
I admit it was kind of fun searching through the piles to find the occasional treasure, I just wish she did't go quite so nuts at the local op-shop...

can't help but just laugh at some of these outfit names. I would be shocked to see something like that on a sweet little baby.
