Topic: Stitch-like pain when exercising/walking Posted: 18 November 2009 at 3:13pm |
Hi all
I've started getting a stitch like pain along the bottom of my bump - sometimes its to one side but sometimes its right across.
I'm still out walking 5-6 times a week for 45 minutes. Could I be overdoing it and should I cut it back a bit? It seems to be quite random but becoming more frequent - sometimes when exercising and sometimes when just wandering down the road at lunchtime!
Has anyone experienced this who's into regular exercise and do you have any advice!!?? My midwife isn't really into the whole exercise thing so I know what she'll say!!
Thanks heaps

I was getting this at about the same time as you are now. My MW said it was caused by the weight of the baby and my uterus. After I mentioned that it felt better if I held the bottom of my bump she suggested I tie a sarong or get a Smiley belt.

I get this and think it is Braxton Hicks. Also get it during sex and now it's getting more frequent. Feel your bump, does it go tight? Good on you for all that walking!

Sounds like round ligament pain to me - you could try a smiley belt and / or massage / physio. Swimming will put less pressure on your joints and still get you the same level of cardio, swimming was bliss when I was last pregnant and had SPD.

I got that - even just walking around the mall caused the pain for me. It is just the ligaments etc. my midwife just said to take it easy and try not to walk too far/fast when getting the pains.

Yip I get it to, and my tummy does go hard. It is usually when I have had a busy day and done lots of walking around at work.

Yeah this is very normal. I've had it through all my pregnancies. Sometimes it comes when i'm walking fast, or if I'm just walking casually around the Mall. Usually means I have to sit for a min (if I can afford the time to do that), or walk very slowly and hope it passes, but it doesn't until I've sat for a while.

I have started getting these same pains recently also. Noticed it the other day when walking round the supermarket! I wont be walking fast or anything, just happens randomly. I usually just slow down for a bit and it eventually goes away. It's not pleasant at the time tho!

Hey hun, your so lucky you got as far as you did before that started happening. with me it started about 20 weeks, so i switched to swimming. I cant even walk around the shops without getting the tightenings and pains. I have to walk super slow otherwise end up with BH and pains like im going into labour or something.......can be a real pain to get things done

I also got this at around the same time you have. I have been walking 2-4 times a week for 30 mins and started getting it after about 20 mins walking. I slowed down a wee bit or stopped for a minute and it eased up.
I think the belt/support thing sounds like a good idea - or perhaps have a wee rest during your walk?

Thanks guys, yeah perhaps a combination of swimming and perhaps a belt for walking might be the way to go. Although in saying that I've walked the last three mornings and had no pains - I dunno!? My main concern is that I'm hurting the baby when I get these pains but I think that's just me - oh dear, the worrying has started already!!
Also have started to get BHs so that's adding to the fun!!

Hi there, I have been getting this too, although im only 19 weeks. I go to the gym every day and also walk lots. I have still been running and notice now that i can only run for 10 mins as the pain is just too much. Been great reading these posts as I think it obv shows Im overdoing it. No more running for me. The X Trainer is good though, dont get the same pain on that.
